US filed BK for the 2nd time today. What if anything do you think AAs response will be or should be?
I think there will be a small effect for AA. I beleive AA is waiting for UA to go then they would clean out the dessert and send everything they can to ORD.
Your thoughts....

Little or not immediate effect upon AA.

P.S. NAFTA was passed by Congress in 1994. At that time the Republicans were in the majority. The Fast Track amendment to it was passed in 1995; also, by a Congress dominated by Republicans. But the job losses have not been to Canada and Mexico--the only two countries involved in NAFTA beside the U.S. The job losses have gone to India, Indonesia, China, and the Phillipines.

C'mon, Jim. Lots of US factories have moved production to Mexico. Levi's, for example. Over the years, so many US brands are marked "Assembled in Mexico".
I believe some of our AA aircraft and component work is done there, too.

Look it up there was a tie in the senate. The deciding vote is cast by the Vice-Pres. Al Gore voted yes to break the tie. And... BINGO!! President Willy C signed it into law. Did he try and veto to protect American jobs, NOOOOO...

Rest my case

===============================================

DFWCC,
I think the first thing US has to worry about is a STRIKE by ALL the unions on the property.

A LOT of US folks say that they will not work for JET BLUE wages, and we all know whats going to be forced on them, by the BK-11 judge.

I see EA, all over again.

Not so fast my friend:
The U.S. Senate approved the North American Free Trade Agreement by a 61-38 vote on 11/20/93. The Republicans did not gain control of both the House and Senate until the 1994 mid-term elections. I know many of you don't like to hear it, but both parties don't really give a damn.

US Airways Group Inc.'s second turn at bankruptcy protection in less than two years isn't expected to significantly change the competitive landscape for Fort Worth-based American Airlines Inc.

"Chapter 11 is just an accounting entry. It means nothing for American right now," said Mike Boyd, an aviation consultant based in Evergreen, Colo.

The two carriers' networks don't compete much head-to-head.

I think AA is more worried in the short term about Delta giving them DFW. US will most likley not efect them so much ececpt maybe some LGA routes. If they can get some gates from them. Look for more expantion then the 70 flights anounced in DFW.

Most of the maquiladores were built on the border long before NAFTA. The first ones were built almost 30 years ago. I live in Texas and there was much ranting and raving about job loss from one camp and "it will keep them on their side of the border" from the other camp. Neither prediction proved to be very true. In fact, for a number of years, the maquiladores resulted in a net job increase in Texas (I worked for the Texas Employment Commission at the time).

The great majority of the textile industry jobs that were lost in the U.S. went to China, not Mexico. And, Mexico is now losing clothing manufacturing jobs to the Far East, just as the U.S. is. It's not that they have raised their prices; it's that the manufacturers can pay labor even less in the Far East.

Judge Lets US Airways Use Gov't Loan
A bankruptcy judge gave US Airways Group Inc. temporary permission Monday to use a government loan to fund daily operations - a move expected to allow the airline more time to find alternative financing.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stephen Mitchell's ruling came a day after the nation's seventh largest airline filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in two years. The filing came after US Airways was unable to obtain $800 million in annual cost cuts from its workers' unions that the airline said it needed to stay afloat.

An attorney representing US Airways said at the hearing Monday that the airline had no intention of liquidating.

I guess Mr. Boyd has not been following US aggressive expansion into the Caribbean, but again anyone can be called Aviation consultant these days.....

May I remind you that Bill Clinton[Democrat] was president and he was the one that pushed NAFTA on Fast Track through the Congress and Bill Clinton was the president that signed the bill into law.
In the Oklahoma delegation the only member to vote AGAINST NAFTA was James Inhofe [Republican]

So don't bring partisian politics B.S. to this forum as there are people watching who really know the truth.
