US/Delta Slot and Facility Swap at LGA

Yeah, right. In less than a year, 2/3 of the D gates will be Dash8s and RJs. The Shuttles will be E190s and express E170s. The largest airplane LCC will operate out of LGA will still be the occasional A321. Did we get the Marine Air Terminal in case Sully comes back to fly?

Doubt the shuttles will be ever be E170's but they definatly won't be 190's. Those are going to be sold in October....

I hesitate to say it but could this possibly be done to simply bring more strength to DL and US to hold their own against WN in DCA and LGA? Also couldn't this be positioning for something between carriers in the future? I believe part is due to US being bigger in DCA while we were dwindled down to express mostly besides shuttle in LGA. Couple what we see between US and DL with CO and Airtran and it looks to me as if carriers are shifting for a reason. hmmmmm

How do you know they will be sold? If so to whom?

Also can somone explain to me how this move is good for US Airways?

Good only if this is just the beginning of something greater like a merger or if we had the airplanes for the international destinations and added DCA flights. I see a lot of "look what we want to do" instead of "look what are are GOING to do." With US Airways, that is usually not a good sign whatsoever!!

WANT to run an airline? Hmmm that seems to be the problem. They seem to believe that they are running the airline and doing a fantastic job at that. Scary huh?

Does anybody think that the regulatory agencies will be looking for capacity improvements (larger aircraft- fewer frequencies) and improved gate utilization (Does Delta really need to use more gates than in the current LCC terminal?)?

Let's hope so. It would help at LGA and DCA considerably. Saigon on the Potomac (35A at DCA) is horrible. And at LGA, it's arguably the only way to increase the number of pax that can be jammed thru there.

Nothing more than unsubstantiated rumors and the usual head games coming from Tempe for now ......but we will know when the primary lines come out later this month. If there is a drastic reduction in lines ......we will have the answer regarding the 190.

Washington is a profitable market for US Airways. LGA is not. Let Delta now compete against Jetblue out of JFK and Continental out of EWR. And of course Southwest wanting to expand in the New York market. Washington is the biggest airline in DCA and will now be even bigger.

The E190 sholud be use on the shuttle or sell them.
What we need to do is go to a single aircraft type, A319-A321 for short haul and A330-200/300 for long haul and we should go an buy the frontier A319 (40 for 180 mill) about 4.5 mill per airplaane.

With what money? Didn't we just liquidate most the NYC operation to save 75 mil a year. Sounds like were in liquidation mode then buyers on new aircraft but I am no economics major.

Coming from AWA I am still learning history about old US Airways. So at one time LGA was a powerhouse city for US, what years did that take place?

I would say a 125 slots is is a good chuck. We're not talking ending service to Flagstaff. shows Tempe is incapable of competing with others and the balance sheet is shambles. I would expect more downsizing.

Guys spin this anyway you like, but it's not a positive event for US Airways. We are "still" in retreat.

Actually, the industry could use more deals like this. The industry is still way too fragmented as it is now and deals like this allow airlines to focus on where their core strengths are. Like it or not, US was never going to be a meaningful player in NYC and it isn't the fault of Parker or Kirby. If you want to blame someone, look to the management in the 1990s who never thought to use our slots in LGA to fly to major business cities. It's much too late to try to start such a buildup now with B6 and a revamped DL around. Add to the fact that CO (and potentially B6) will be joining the *A soon and it makes even less sense for US to continue to maintain some B-rate operation in LGA.

Somebody should tell Ensign that not only does LAS have service from DCA today, but that the airline tends to make it come and go in the schedule. rolleyes.gif

The national perimeter is not going anywhere. And if it did (in the example above), airlines would have to burn service to their inside-perimeter hubs to make it happen..

Huh? HP/US has continually flown LAS since being awarded the route.

The perimeter rule will be changed someday; there are enough people out there that realize how outdated it is. When it does, several airlines (particularly US) will be more than happy to "burn service" to their large hub airports -- DCA does not need 13 flights a day to PHL aboard CRJs!

AFter all is said and done, DL got the better part of this deal. A SUPERIOR terminal, lucrative slots in LGA and lock out of competition in the New York area.
US could have secured more slots at Narita for service to CLT and PHL as well as PHX. Startting service in 2012....yeah that will NEVER happen- u just wait and see. Remember NW has a stranglehold at Narita.
Tempe boys gave up alot for very little. US has beefed by DCA many times, only to scale it down. US/AW has NO clue as to what they are doing...very sad day. US never operated LGA properly...guess what... DL WILL!!!!
