the counter agent told me to open the golf bag. Not sure why I agreed, but I opened the bag which had some dirty laundry and some toiletries in the bag along with my golf items. I was told by the agent that I needed to remove these items or face paying a $100 oversize baggage fee
Looks like the customer encountered an inquisitive (rather zealous?) agent who wanted to make sure that there was nothing but clubs in the golf bag. I'm too lazy to look up US policy on this, but a poster on anet says that AA policy is to allow on clubs and shoes in golf bag.
THe other side of the coin is that as long as the golf bags is with weight limits, does is matter what is inside.
