US Airways Chief Sees Deals on Horizon

You are missing some key facts in your scenario.

First of all, CO would not resist UAL.

Sure they would. Haven't you heard? I got this from my flight service manager's dog groomer's hairdresser's 3rd cousin once removed...CO, WN, and AA are going to merge and Texas will rule the aviation world! BWAHHAHA.

With all this talk about UA/CO, I would think it much more likely that CO would acquire UA, or parts thereof. CO is in much better financial condition and it is run MUCH better than UA is. They have the best product of any US carrier, and truth be told could probably make it on their own if necessary.

That said, whichever way it shakes out, any combination with CO would likely be predicated on CO management running the new company-they are by far the most qualified, competent and successful airline managers in the industry right now.

Just my ramblings, but I think it makes sense.

NHBB, more research is needed on your part.. Have you not heard L.K.s statement recently on how CAL will not be left behind.. ALso believe it or not Tilton said that he would leave the STAR (big mistake) in order to get a deal done.. Also, on the DAL board i thought your "opinion" was more toward a DAL UAL deal... Although I truly hope not, I do not want to merge with DAL... I do agree that they will spin off some things if UAL does not merge however, just not things that you want them to spin off... They will spin off MNTC, and MP program... If they do that UAL will be the wealthiest carrier in the industry, with the least debt... Then if they need they can purchase whomever they want.... Think about that...

beauty,
Yes I did say that I was (then) leaning towards DL/UA.

But then, i realized that both NW and DL are in the SKY TEAM allience.

Also, the more I ponder DL / NW, the more I could see the "This baby" was concocted LONG BEFORE Anderson left UHC, which would mean that EVERY little possible scenario has been considered with a "Plan A"/B/C/D and so forth.

Well, not exactly, They do have better mgmt than most, however, CAL only competes in 2 markets, EWR and IAH, both of which are not concentrated with LCCs and they dont compete heavily on INTL routes out of EWR or IAH.. Despite the fact that JFK is just around the corner, it is still a different ball game which gives Connie Continental an advantage.. I would call it far stretched to say that their product is better than UAL and AMRs product, CAL is a 2 class show, and dont offer near the international product that UAL does... If you think about it CAL is nearly the same thing as USAIRWAYS, and east coast airline with a southern hub, CAL saving grace was that it started to add internationally and be quite aggressive with it.. However lets not forget the day people referred to CAL as "trash" the same as they do USAIRWAYS today.. I do believe if L K gets ahold of UAL it will become a FABULOUS airline... If not, so be it...
