I read something a few weeks ago that said that the UAW as in what they call on here an Industrial Union gave AMFA $880,000 for their Strike Fund which I believe falls under your "No preparation, No planning, No funds, No support" perfectly in my opinion. I was under the impression AMFA was Super Anti-Industrial Union or is that unless they are handing out money when they had none? Maybe that is just the AMFA pushers we have at AA well TULE to be exact ?
True, AC. besides the UAW, other unions tried to pull amfa out of the muck because they realized what a failed strike with the RLA can do. A failed strike in this environment where people look to reasons to blame unions is not helpful to any of us.
amfa handled no preparations. The company made every attempt to warn them of their intentions.
amfa had no planning. They were completely unprepared for the inevitable strike other than making a few signs. The other professionally made strike signs and banners did not show up until later in the strike, and only after the donations from other INDUSTRIAL unions.
amfa had no strike fund, and the real estate investments were not paying off. For all intents and purposes, amfa at NWA was broke soon after the strike began.
amfa had no support from the other unions on property. I know the IAM as a former member. These are some solid union folks who do not take crossing a line lightly and live up to the name fighting machinists. I do not deny that there were members of the IAM who took on mechanics work during the strike. It makes me wonder, however, what kind of an a-hole do you have to be to turn a group of hard core union members against your union? The IAM prides itself on supporting picket lines. In the case of NWA, they helped the COMPANY?? I do not know the full story, but one day I would like to talk to "that" guy.
I do not disagree with Quagmire that the members are the union,
but the union is responsible, has the duty in fact to be prepared for their members.
The mechanics at NWA did not fail, but the association charged with protecting them sure did.
