What's new

TWU 580 WILL BE IN CLT

not the story I heard. FWIW, several AGC's whose high paying IAM jobs are on the line were directly outside the conference room to try to intimidate all the workers who went in. Didn't work though since they wield support only from IAM loyalist. Also, several of the IAM shop stewards went and some were politely asked to leave as they were getting angry and causing a slight disturbance.
I got several reports back that the meeting was 'enlightening' and a major card signup will now take place in CLT.

I wasn't at the meeting so take the above for what it is worth but based on my opinion and all the other stations I have been in contact with, there will be little or no resistance to picking up the necessary cards needed to have an election.

Basically the IAM sucks real bad and that is what it comes down to and I really hate to say that because the US AIRWAYS workers deserve so much more. My understanding is that the IAM and it's high paid AGC"S and newbies Armedios and Miller haven't even filed a grievance over the last 3 years regarding things as simple as a contract booklet for its members. I mean, it's not because they don't have the resources to do so but rather because they continue to operate with total disrespect to fleet service.

I find it utterly amusing how the IAM says not to give up what we fought for. Tell me, exactly what fight are they talking about??????

As I have said, I'm not sure who I will vote for but, I'll now do my best to make sure the entire system knows about TWU cards because it is most important to have a democratic election, it might not be the IAM way but it's the American way.
Why is the IAM Regime so much against the American way of democracy? I think it is because no doubt they want to keep their big fat paychecks, control, and POWER like Husseinist to continue their oppression of working men and women.

At any rate, I respect your opinion and when there is an election then the IAM will have itself to blame and nobody else.

regards,
TWU 580 would like to thank all those who came and spent time with us while we were in CLT.

You have a voice and a Vote please sign an election card today.

TWU 580 will be in PHL on Dec 6th

Yeah, fifteen years to a whopping $15.20 per hour at top of scale.
Those years of experience are showing...

All of us TWU Fleet Service Employees know that we are under paid. We haven't disputed that. This was the pay scale that was negotiated on our first contract. The first contract got us excellent work rules, more weeks of vacation than the IAM contract provides, more paid holidays, paid sick time, not a percentage like IAM's, double time, does IAM's have that? More importantly we CANNOT BE OUTSOURCED! We have a new negotiating team who is currently in talks with corporate, negotiating our new contract. I do have faith in this team. I think that these people are very capable of getting us up to industry standards. The first contract was a just starting point. I hope TWU is given the chance to grow and prove what they can do for us. Now if IAM would quit trying to intimidate their members and let them get the information they need we could get the cards signed and get a vote. What are they afraid of if they are so good?

Let's face it everyone, no one on either side East or West really likes what is going on with the union situation.
But what we all really need to think about is the end result.
All of us here at US east know what can happen when you have a union election, we've been through enough of them.
The real problem is that under the NMB rules we will be lame ducks and come out of this whole thing with no union. It is almost impossible to even win with 50% +1.
If you think the IAM or the TWU is bad just wait and see what will happen right after we are De-Certified.
If anybody on either side thinks for a second that taking that chance is even worth it, just ask anybody that worked for US Airways when we lost the union.
If we do vote we are done and if we don't we have to live with a crap contract, but if at least we will still be here to talk about it.
I for one think that by signing a card for the TWU (and I have nothing against them) will be like signing your own death warrant.

Jimmy in order to avoid Decertification you need at least 50%+1 to vote in the election.

WHEN that happens whoever gets more votes wins.

ALL of those class 2 station members who are subject to outsourcing really need to long and hard about that. in todays ever changing airline industry Job Security is or should be very importantTWU offers that and More.

As far as ensuring that 50%+1 members vote, there should be a campaign to ensure that US east furloughees and US west newbies (always a revolving door) vote. There are many newbies on the AWA side who are young and part-time that really don't know or care about this union business. They are what I call "Generation Nintendo". This is our Achilles tendon.

I am trying to accomplish this in the field stations. I could use your help in PHX.

Just so all of you out there know, the way it's supposed to work and the way it will actually work are two different things.
Under the NMB rules you need 50% +1 in order to win. With that said they will include all active employees as well as all furloughed ones with recall.
If you check the IAM contract, that means that everyone who has been laid off for up to the last 4 years at US Airways.
That just happens to be a whole lot of people, like in the thousands. On top of that the company is only required to give the last known address of these former employees so anyone who moved won't even get a ballot.
I would be most certain to guess that on top of that, all these employees already know that they get the shaft upon return with $9.00 an hour even with 15-20 years of service. These people just are not going to vote period.
I personally know one who was actively involved in the union before his furlough, and flat out told me that he would not even consider voting, that's how mad these folks are and you can't blame them.
So just remember, if you think signing a card is good idea you had better think long and hard at what you wish for, you may get more than you bargained for. jimmy_neutron.webp
