Turning Point

First amendment....Again you are right on......Its so amazing to me that the concept of treat your employees good and they will move heaven and earth for you has been totally lost with this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Fisrt Amendment,

I have to say you are on to something.

Do you remember Parity + 1%? I think the new plan should be Parity - 1%, where parity is measured from Mesa, Transstate, and Apartheid.

U mgt could throw in a fresh block of cheese (for those who come to work to get it) during the holiday.

Surely if we agreed to Apartheid - 1% then mgt would treat us well and value our contribution!

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto!!!
Man, are you ever in the wrong position at this company. Your a$$ needs to be on a speeding jet to Crystal City. First Ammendment, you just keep thinking like you're thinking, and I'll keep praying the company execs really do read these boards; and that they listen.

For what it is worth... as a frequent flyer and someone who flew 12/24-12/31, I am pulling for all of you. Everyone I dealt with was very polite and helpful. Upper managment needs to find the right game plan and start calling the right plays. USAirways has a great team, maybe they need a new coach!

First Amendment,

That is an outstanding post. I don't agree 100% with ALL of it, but you are on the right path here. My only split is in the model you wish to emulate--I think Alaska or HP would be a better model than JetBlue. If you close clubs, get rid of 1st, etc., you will rely too heavily on leisure travelers. Those customers who travel all the time for business count on the amenities. While I would be happy with more leg room on most flights instead of an F cabin, on long flights it would be preferred. Also, the clubs are a necessity for most business travelers--and I do believe that most of them are profitable.

You are right on the money otherwise--the bickering and infighting has to stop. ALL parties should work on a common goal--the survival and GROWTH of the airline. I firmly believe it CAN be done. The management has to think outside the box--we don't need GO FARES, we need FAIR fares (I have been saying this all along). We may actually get this as DL is about to go system wide with their rational fare structure and I think US will have to go along). It is possible to make a profit with the right fare structure, while still offering the business travelers the amenities they expect.

On the subject of contracts again you are right on the money--the archaic work rules MUST be changed. I don't care who cleans the airplane, as long as it gets done. I don't care WHO loads the bags as long as the customer gets his bag at the destination. There is no more place in this world for such stupid PI**ING contests. If someone won't or can't do their job then someone else should help. I am tired of sitting at PHL waiting for a gate when the captain announces there is no one to park us while I see 4 rampers at the next gate drinking coffee and reading the paper--turns out they won't get off their duffs because we're not in their zone? BULL. Do the Job!

Enough ranting. Congratulations on a fantastic post!!!

PS It would be an honor to be on one of your flights.

My best to you all and HAPPY NEW YEAR......

1st, I respect your opinions and ideas on how to turn U around. I fly U exclusively, and was actually considering bolting to another carrier after hearing what went down over Christmas. Your post, and the response from others with USAir TO your post, have made me reconsider.

But, if you get rid of First Class, I'm gone!

Happy New Year everyone. Keep flying USAir!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I was only speaking from my heart. My suggestions are a reflection of the many discussions with various frequent flyers, many who seem willing to give up a few perks for a more consistant product and price structure. These are ONLY suggestions. It's up to the powers that be to listen or ignore.

One other thought. I apologize if it is a repeat of an earlier post. Whoever dreamed up the concept of Zone Boarding must have been a Bone Head. While it might make sense to board passengers with problems and first class passengers first, if the company really wants quicker turn-around, they need to resume the practice of boarding those passengers in the rear of the cabin first. Zone baording just slows down the boarding process.

First,
I agree 100% with you. We need to do a complete about face and change this miserable failing model. PSA didn't have first class and our business travellers were numerous. These are the days of you get what you pay for. You want WalMart fares? You get WalMart planes and crews. Cut out the drinks for flights less than 2 hours. What you can't go without something to drink?(Just kidding on that one)
The one thing I think is very important is to get rid of our outdated fare system. Simplify, simplify, simplify. There doesn't seem to be any reason to stick with the confusing system we got going. It certainly isn't because of the competition.
Base your frequent flier rewards on fares paid, not miles flown. That way, if some one has a ridiculous last minute fare, they get rewarded for paying a higher price than the pax that bought their ticket for 29 bucks!

And change the mantra we got going from"We're not happy until your not happy" to "We're not happy until your are!"

Supreme post. What a breath of fresh air and a formula that would lead to significant market success.

It is an exceptional post.

Just so you know, our preferred miles are based in part on the fare paid. We get premium miles (sometimes both regular miles and preferrred miles, and sometimes just preferred miles) for B, Y, A, J, and F fares. There may be more, but you do get perks for buying higher fares. You also get more guarantees with updgrading on higher fares.
