The Gun Control Issue:

K.C. there are an estimated 357 million+ guns owned here in the US. Most are said to be for personal protection. So, even though mass shootings are tragic, what percentage of those killed are killed with guns owned here in the US?

You guys want the average citizen to be able to own a military style assault rifle. When asked why, because hunting bunnies and squirrels seems so unfair when they are up against an assault rifle, the answer that is usually given is "to protect us from an overreaching government". My little cartoon just graphically illustrates how often our guns have been used to protect us from tyranny. Schools have been shot up with a legal gun. A country concert in Las Vegas was shot up with a legal gun. Moviegoers in Denver were shot up with a legal gun. I am not aware of one tyrant that was killed in any of those attacks.

K.C. For one guns themselfs need someone to pull the triger! "Guns don't kill people! People kill people!" There are hundreds of millions of guns out there that will never be fired. But are insurance policies against those that may want to do you, and yours, harm! It's that simple!........ And what is your definition of a "military-style assault rifle"?

Yep. And a guy walks into an elementary school holding the innocent gun that was designed to kill as many human beings in a short a time as possible and uses it for the purpose it was intended. A guy walks into a movie theatre with the innocent little gun that is designed to kill as many human beings in as short a time as possible. And he uses IT the way it was intended to be used. And then some guy was bored in a hotel room in Vegas, ordered a hamburger and looked down at country music fans, and he was surrounded by a bevy of innocent little guns that were designed kill as many people in as short a time as possible - and used the gun in the manner it was intended to be used. And again....not a single tyrant was killed.

All those you mention were 'innocent' until proven guilty.

Dell, if it was otherwise, with 357 million guns out there, we would all be dead!!!

Your little cartoon illustrates nothing. Just because the need hasn't yet arisen doesn't mean it never will. The founding fathers put the 2nd in there for several reasons hunting not being one of them.

He has none. He has demonstrated time and again he has no clue about firearms. Remember a prerequisite of being a leftist is having no practical knowledge if the subject you're discussing.

When you fixate on a point you never get tired of repeating it do you. Saying the same thing over and over doesn't make it any more correct. You were wrong the first hundred or so times you harped on this point and you're wrong now. Its a DETERRENT. The founding fathers were some smart guys, believe it.

The founding fathers also included some verbiage about a "well regulated militia". If our dear leader starts something in Iran, does that mean that we can send gun owners over there to insure the security of a Free State? I mean...they were some pretty smart fellers...

I have to say Trump showing restraint on Iran surprised me in a good way. I can only hope that he continues to resist the pressure to get us to war with them. As far as your post above its just ridiculous to the point of not warranting a response.

But it's HALF of the second amendment. You all only focus on the "right to bear arms shall not be infringed" but completely ignore the "A well regulated militia" part of it. Our founding fathers WERE smart...so they MUST have included those words for a reason. Personally, I kind of think that it was because when they wrote the constitution, we didn't really have a very big standing army, so they NEEDED the citizenry to be armed so that they could be called up to protect the security of the free state. That being the case - buy a gun and you just enlisted.

The term "welll regulated" back in 1700's meant something different then you think it is today.

Back then it meant to be proficient and top notch training.

And the reason why we have the right to bear arms is due to 1774 import ban on firearms and gunpowder; the 1774-75 confiscations of firearms and gunpowder; and the use of violence to effectuate said confiscations. It was these events that changed a situation of political tension into a shooting war. Each of these British abuses lead to the scope of the modern Second Amendment.

Or are you saying we would have been better off under British rule?

Since muskets were the weapon of choice when the founding fathers penned the second, do you think that maybe they would change it today...knowing that we have a multi billion dollar standing militia and guns that can kill 100 people in just over a minute?

No. There was an army then just like there is one today. Also muskets were the equivalent of what the army had at the time.
