Travis- swamt is organizing for amfa. He will say what ever it takes to get you to sign a card. The very plain and real truth is amfa does not know how many cards are needed and they fear they do not have enough at this point. My guess is the Teamsters are in that same boat. AA has been very secretive on the number of mechanics in the class and craft. My guess again is it is done as a favor to the TWU, but I am only speculating. Once a union files, neither union has any ability to "pad" the list. This is yet another lie by swamt in an effort to stir fear and hatred for his cause. Near the end of May, about 500 mechanics on the furlough list at AA will fall off and no longer be eligible to vote. If there is a filing by either the IBT of amfa, I expect it to happen after this date (I do not know the exact date).
For now, you can take the statements of swamt as an example of the type of representation you will get from amfa. These guys will tell you anything to get you to vote for them, and they will tell you anything to get you to follow them to the bottom once they have your group.
Both the IBT and amfa are in negotiations. Check out the updates of SWA and UAL and see which ones are making the most progress.
