USAirways flight attendants gear up for strike
NEW YORK (Reuters) — Flight attendants at bankrupt US Airways Group are gearing up for a possible nationwide strike, the Association of Flight Attendants said Friday.
The union has mailed out more than 5,000 strike authorization ballots to its members, threatening to launch a strike should the airline get its employee agreements negated by the federal bankruptcy court.

Strike ballots are also being prepared for UAL's United Airlines, ATA Holdings's ATA Airlines and Hawaiian Holdings' Hawaiian Airlines, the union said.

Nice!!! I wish all flight attendants were that giving. :p

You might want to re-check that link because it sends me to a non-AFA, non work friendly site. However I do thank you for it!

Have you been doing some naughty surfing Jim? B)

Peace!

We're gearing up folks....

What we have now is GE in on the act trying to bust labor and giving management until June 30th to emerge from bk.

They can kiss our azzes. I think I will throw out every damn GE appliance in my house. Damn company now says that they will pull their financing of the a/c if the 3 labor groups don't Gutt themselves.

All these corporations are now in on the scheme to bust labor and have labor wages give them a return on their investment.

HERE'S AN EPIPHANY GE...why not tell managment to get a business plan together that fixes the airline's business model!!!!

OR IS THAT JUST TO DAMN MUCH TO ASK OF AN AIRLINE THAT HAS INEPT MANAGMENT?

How about this? Ask Bronner to get rid of all this senior managment and maybe labor will talk.

Putting a gun to labor WILL NOT DO IT.

CHAOS!!!! Coming to a city near you!

Thanks, skeezer. Don't know where that came from - I cut-n-pasted the link from the article screen.

The link has been corrected, and tested this time.

PITbull, you've got me really confused.

GE wanst to lend money to U, so that makes them the bad guys???!!!

Y'all NEED people to lend you money! And take a look around-- no one is going to do it without assurances that they will get paid back. Maybe you haven't noticed, but lending to or investing in U is very risky right now, and any lender is going to want to minimize its risks. If YOU were lending money to U, wouldn't you want them to cut other costs to make it more likely that you would get paid back?

I hope my AFA leaders at UAL have a better grasp of the financial world than you seem to.

That is DISGUSTING!!! Hello!!!! Did anyone happen to notice that that is a little girl????? She can't be more than 10 years old. I sure hope you guys who thanked him for the link aren't serious. Poor little kid.

sounds like the proper law enforcement authorities need to be advised!

To all,

My deepest apologies for the broken link. I've now run both a virus and spyware scan on my computer and found nothing amiss. The link was through Yahoo news (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/....) so maybe something was amiss at that end. Even after rechecking the link and reposting it, I found that it took me to a different news article - this one from the Financial Times of London.

To be perfectly sure, here are the contents of the press release itself - no links this time....

Strike Ballots Go Out at US Airways
Friday November 26, 9:00 am ET
CHAOS(tm) Promised if Contract is Scrapped

WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Following up on its threat to launch a nationwide strike in the event that one of its contracted airlines abrogates its collective bargaining agreement, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA today mailed out more than 5,000 strike authorization ballots to its members employed by US Airways.

"This is a wakeup call to those in airline management whose greed has far outpaced its carrier's need," declared Patricia Friend, AFA international president. "Flight attendants will not passively stand by while their employers manipulate the courts to destroy our livelihoods. Enough is enough."

Two of the nation's largest airlines, United Airlines and US Airways, have asked federal bankruptcy courts for permission to unilaterally tear up negotiated agreements with their workers, terminate their retirement plans and attack medical benefits for retirees. In response to this threat, the AFA Board of Directors last week approved a resolution calling for a strike should management engage in this form of "self-help." Such a job action would be in the form of CHAOS(tm) (Create Havoc Around Our System), AFA's trademarked tactic of surprise work stoppages on flights, dates and locations of its choosing.

Talks between AFA and US Airways aimed at reaching a consensual agreement took place this past week and are continuing over the weekend.

Ballots are being prepared for United Airlines, ATA and Hawaiian as well. In the event of a strike, secondary activity may take place at other carriers.

More than 46,000 flight attendants join together to form AFA, the world's largest flight attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000 member strong Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO. Visit us at http://www.afanet.org.

First, I never looked closely at the pictures thus I can't tell you if she was legal or not so relax! I think it was a link to some japanese place beacuse it wanted to download japanese language decoder (or something like that). Those japanese people like some freaky stufff sometimes.

Anyways, I was just poking a little fun at Jim and I know stuff like that can happen on the interent because of hackers. Not his fault, stuff happens.

Peace!

Bear,

I don't think you have a grasp....

They want $150 million from AFA in cost savings...and GE is only lending $140million.

Can you see the contrast here?????????

They said they need labor deals....Whose they? How did they get in on this act.

Sorry charlie, I don't drink the same porrage as you do...and guess what, they are at the ack door of UAL as well.

GE needs to force this management to focus on nonlabor issues in running this business.

I guess you've been asleep when reading all these posts for the past year.

GE specifically said, "No deal unless AFA coughs up $150M?"

Or was it a more general, "No deal unless you lower costs further-- you (management) figure out the details."

If there is a better deal out there, where is it? Ditech.com? Or do you really think U doesn't need loans like this to survive?

NO ONE is going to lend U anything without some SERIOUS strings attached to make sure they get paid back-- PLUS INTEREST.

And don't worry-- I am well aware we are / will be facing the same issues here at UAL.

I am so glad that your nursing degree has provided you such great insights into the business world. So GE is supposed to allow us to use the planes for free right? They don't have investors or employees to worry about.
