SOUTHWEST TO BUY AIR TRAN

You know I seen Delta layoff everyone in BWI and hire contractors.

There is the rub. I see what kind of service they get there. I know this because we (southwest) used delta's cargo to ship and AOG part. I stood there while the contractor treated person after person as indifferent as possible. WTF does he care Delta doesn't pay him. Do you have any idea how much consistent service goes.

Just remember, Delta was once the size of SW...................be careful what you wish for...................and flaunt !

Keep fiddling, Delta, while Atlanta burns. I would love to see the facial expressions when the first WN aircraft is docked at the Air Tran gate!

Yes, we know...for Delta, as usual, it will be slashing prices to match or beat the competitor, and Delta can hang on for the long run. But the general public isn't as dumb as Delta thinks we are. If it succeeds at getting SW to pull out    ...I almost said that with a straight face...then prices will go up ten fold! And the travelers are stuck paying the Delta 'screw fee'!

But Princess Delta seems to have forgotten something. The baggage costs that are making it a big profit! Not to mention the other fees that add up and up and up and up and up and up...infinity! :p

With WN what you see is what you get. Not to mention that much like US, Delta has internal labor issues with their pro and con union. Southwest can be a poster child to represent all union labor at its finest. Not many unions are happy with their management!

No one said anything about being an international carrier. They said the combined carrier would have international flights (which we do, and post-merger, will). If you have nothing better to do than to make something up so that you can then have something to argue about, might I suggest a hobby or some volunteer work?
LOL, Maybe Habitat for inHumanity!

Understood southwind.

Been here 17 years not the same company it was when I started. Sometimes I reminisce about the Pre-911 days of old and have many stories about changes not always favorable, but gotta look forward. Not flaunting sir.

Just calling you on your misconception that we still operate as if we were the Southwest of the 90's.

I will start by saying that I am NOT a big fan of Delta, but I hardly think that this merger will bring them to their knees as some are predicting. Will it hurt DL in ATL? Yes, but don't forget their massive route structure that will more than offset the SW issue in ATL as well as a few other places. With the NW merger, DL has pretty much got it all covered. They have the Pacific, a huge International operation from both ATL and JFK, the Shuttle, and a fair amount of South America as well. Couple that with a few very strong hubs in DTW, MSP, SLC, and you have it all covered. As time goes on SWA's cost advantage gets less and less. This merger will only add to their costs with labor and mtc factored in with integrating both Airlines.

Welcome on board AirTran Crew Members.
It'll be a good team...and we look forward
to working together.

Sharon, your post is a perfect example of why WN is such a successful company. Instead of immediately going into a litany of how much seniority you have and those interlopers better not try to hold your job or your schedule, you started with a welcome to the new WN employees.

From what I have been able to see as a passenger and from the WN employees I know in Dallas, that attitude is pretty typical. That ethos of finding a way to work together and help each other pervades your company. I wish all of you the best. I know it will work out for all.

I think you're underestimating SW. True they won't do much damage to Delta in the long run...for now. But Air Tran charges for luggage, and soon won't. Luggage can cost over $300 round trip.

Yes Delta circumvents the globe. Delta has been around since the 1920's and Southwest since the 1970s. Since I first heard of WN around 4 years ago, I've seen people actually saying what a wonderful airline they are. Apparently SW knows the WNing formula which is give the customer what they want, while the others take-away from customers what they want...and charge them for it

It doesn't matter what the costs are if the aircrafts are leaving full to capacity!

My own personal opinion is that LUV is just starting to grow. They don't discuss their business until it has been finalized unlike the other rumor mill airlines. The biggies are merging with the biggies to become a colossal giant. The giant feels invincible...Smisek says new United is going to be tough to compete against. USA Today 10/1/10...

Giants underestimate the 'little guy' because David and Goliath was a fairy tale, after all! They can't perceive that the little guy is eye level with their family jewels :p

What would happen if WN bought or merged with B6? Delta may have just a bit of competition. Underestimating an opponent leads to a rather intriguing element of surprise. Southwest-Air Tran is a case in point!

Well lets see what they say when they buy AA. Airtran is small and has only been around since 1997, the impact of integration will be minimal and I dont think that SWA bought Airtran to disassemble it like when AA bought Air Cal, Reno and TWA. All that was left of those purchases was the employees and recall lists.

Whats the seniority date of the most Junior AA flight attendant? What the most senior? The most Senior mechanic at AA is 1942! (not his birth date, his seniority date!). Thats said I think even he would not mind being stapled to a WN seniority list at this point.

I wish them all the best as well but it isnt that the people are worse at other carriers its that WN treats its people better so they in turn treat the company and its customers better.

Thank you Jim. :)
It will be good for all of us.

I know some of the employees at DAL and
they are really a good group.

Thanks for your best wishes.
