Slot Swap

Travel,

Travel asked: "Is it true that the east pilots have a clause in their contract that the shuttle can only be operated by mainline?"

USA320Pilot answers: Yes. When the Trump Shuttle was purchased by US Airways a provision was placed into the pilot's contract that the Shuttle could only be flown by mainline pilots. I would not surprise me to see the Shuttle operated by E-190s in all 3 markets: LGA-BOS, BOS-DCA, & DCA-LGA with the A319s that currently fly shuttle routes re-deployed in the network.

And that would be a smart move by managment. The 190's on the BOS-LGA route alone are saving 10 million a year compared to a A320 on that route.
Cheers.

So now that the slot swap is history,if US and AA were to merge wouldn't that put them right back in the thick of market at LGA with a pocket full of Delta's money?

I also thought there was a provision in the contract that said no FC on Express. Had there been a LOA to allow it on Express now, or has the company just disregarded it considering the whole ALPA/APA issue?

Screw the pilots!

They have enough threads here.

Absolutely true. Every threat turns into revolving around the pilots BUT this is a pretty important question considering the company disregards so many things. It struck me when they announced the slot swap saying there would be more "dual class" aircraft and now we see E170's and 175's with f/c installation. I don't see the slot swap as a gain for mainline but more Republic flying. That was why I asked about shuttle. If they were to take over shuttle we'd be screwed.

UNLESS Republic falters financially and ends up being a wholly owned sub of US

Not that I recall. Generally, it's the airplane size that's limited, not route. I think the shuttle name only applying to BOS/LGA/DCA is more historical than anything.

First of all IMHO... Number one... the shuttle operations from DCA=BOS can never go smaller than a 319
It is full, full, full, full, every leg all day long.

As for DCA-LGA it is almost full....

Next point.... the shuttle is LCC's bread and butter.... they well never ever give it up.... we had killed Delta's operation... and as a frequent shuttle f/a
we will never give it up... the PAX have been ours for a long time... I see them every day.

Didn’t the DOJ nix the UA US merger deal

We never got that far as UA pulled out before that happened. That's why UA had to pay US the break-up fee. Rumor was DOJ was going to sue to stop the merger, but again events superceded that.

IIRC, it became clear the DOT was going to say no, even after the weird transfer of assets to AA and "sharing" the shuttle with them.

YES .... which then sent United into BK, where their defined pensions were dumped on the PBGC.

Industry consolidation was badly needed then .... but the government wasn't ready to let up on labor yet.

DC Air was also part of this. Regardless, UA pulled out before any Government agency actually nixed or tried to nix the deal, and UA had to pay US the breakup fee.

not sure of your perspective but based on DOT data DL is and has been for many years the largest carrier on LGA-BOS while US is on LGA-DCA (and round trip).
