Looks like Santorum might have tipped the scales against Specter come November. Especially if things get really crappy around USAirways.

PIT AFA Pres got a call from Santorum today. Had a lengthy conversation. He stated that PA needs USAirways and depends on USAirways.
PIT Pres responded back, "where were you in the Pittsburgh Airport negotiations and why all the concern now".
She stated he was extremely gracious, concerned, and apologetic. Stated he was angry after talking with Lakefield and probably misspoke without hearing from labor. He said he would contact the ALPA 4 and may have to eat crow, which he said won't be his first time.
He said he would keep abreast of the future negotiations and will come down harshly on management if they do not negotiate in "good faith " and reasonably. He said that we must admit that the industry has changed and that he believes wages should be competitive with the direct competitors. She told him U's direct competitors are Delta and SW. And both airlines wages are higher than U.
As far as U insisting on Am. West who is only 1% of our competitiion, the latest proposals for the f/as places our top-out $4 below their top-out.
He understood, said he would watch these events closely in BK and would keep in touch and said for us to keep in touch with him.
She will test his sencerity and told him so..

Fred Freshwater is not the MEC Communications Chairman and should keep his mouth shut. We have people/infrastructure to service the needs of the media that represent all the pilots, not a rouge minority.
I guess we can record him and use it against him court, as he continues to help destroy the airline, and further divide the membership.
He has been asked before to not do this (talk to the media), of course his ego prevents him from using any judgement.
He is a sad/sick guy...is he not happy after he lost everyones notional money, now he must continue to damage our group.

Freshwater has the right to defend himself. Your ALPA MEC Chair has already divided the group and fosters disention among the group and ranks.
As I said before, if I were sitting on the ALPA MEC, I would have motioned for a "recall". The MEC Presidents are charged with taking THEIR DIRECTION FROM THE MAJORITY OF THE MEC which is the majority of the membership. THEY ARE CHARGED WITH REPRESENTING THE WISHES OF THE LOCAL ALPA REPS, as the reps are charged with representing their particular base,and the MEC President does not act out on their own. This is the structure of both ALPA and AFA.
NO INTERNATIONAL NOR MEC CHAIRMAN CAN TELL AN ALPA REP THAT THEY CAN NOT SPEAK TO ANY MEDIA PERSON. AFA MEC members were divided in the summer negotiations and T/A, and their respective e-lines revealed that.
Every union has media training for every elected officer who wishes to attend.
