Rez Outsourced

Far too much money has been spent getting the outsourced offices up and running (paying out the EO and closing PIT RES). If those offices were closed up how much money would be lost in this fiasco? And who would take the res calls? I believe the company just feels all these problems are "growing pains" and they will resolve themselves. Not to mention the -at least- 50% increase in training and procedures staffing ( management) to support the outsourcing. All that management staff would not have been hired if they thought that this was a short term operation.

Can't help but wonder in INT we are really overstaffed when it comes to Reservations Management staff....wonder what is behind the management overstaffing decision...

I can tell you guys that Doug Parker is a big fan of bringing as much as possible in house. :) From what I understand the attitude is that it is cheaper and more controllable to have it in house rather than outsourcing. It may take a while, but I wouldn't be surprised if over time ( as contracts expire, ect. ) more things come back in house. Also it just takes time to make things happen.....

He is?

Then why is all heavy maintenance farmed out to TIMCO in GA and TACA in San Salvador?

I know they were trying to save money, with San Salvador. The rumor I heard was they weren't saving as much as they thought. I have also heard they weren't that happy with TIMCO, but I haven't heard anything about any changes. I do know they are trying to upgrade our mechanics with better tools, ie wireless toughbooks for manuals and converting all software to citrix, so we could do more inhouse.
But I was talking more in the way of Rez and Vacations, they told HP people in those depts that they were not going to outsource when they announced the merger.

I truely hope soo...even when the outsourced offices are checking the departures or arrival time of a flight they are making big errors.

Just Friday we had a family of 4 booked in X EWRCLTAUA.The bad news was that the vouchers the had had an amount on them and the last tkt was to be totally paid for. Just trying to find anykind of fare and then back date it. Oh, by the way...this is happening at 4am with our island rushes...The pax went ballistic, customer service...the upper mgmt does care cause they will be outta here.Bring the resv back to the mainland, what it costs in higher pays we will get by having less pax hang up or be stuck for 2 hrs with sally aka kim tran trying to book a flight from ALB to AHN.

Here you go, enjoy your flight. No waiver code, just 5H-Manila/Mex City rez screw up. Since I'm one of 2 agents at the counter I dont have time to play hide and seek with the fares they thought they were getting.
Next customer.

If CCY doesnt care about money being thrown out the door, why drive yourself crazy (and the pax mad) in the meantime? Try the best you can and when you get to a certain point (like the line out the door) do what you can and be done with it.

What is the purpose of having them call rez if you're going to have to redo the entire thing anyway? Just bring the vouchers to the airport and we'll put you on whatever you want. I'm over it.

2 more RTFCs booked in F class arrived at our counter this week.

I just call inventory to OB them into X class and they do it. Thanks to that ob-ing I had to do due to MNL messups both flights went out needing volunteers.

Why didn't you just find a supervisor or someone with SI7 power to OB the flight?

This week alone I've had to do that on a few flights (-- oversell Coach cabin & even notified upline stations, btw) and I've also seen the RTFC booked in F, not X.

*sigh*

USAirways is doing this so that our customers get so fed up with reservations that they are FORCED to book online!!!!

With the SI7 and an SCR of 024 (PSS) I don't believe you are able to OB "X" class....all other classes yes, but I have seen instances where a supv (in front of me no less) was unable to OB in "X" with SABRE but was able to OB in "Y" class (when showing F0 Y0 B0 M0 etc...). Has this been your experience too? Or maybe it was just a freak occurance the couple of times it happened to me with a CSS there...I've stopped asking locally since then and just pick up the line and dial inventory.

I'll try this tomorrow and see if it works. I know that I've been successful OB"ing pretty much anything --- I'm one of those types that will call the next station's CCC and OB Y instead of taking F seats out of inventory --- I'd rather give those First Class seats to our CPs and US2/3's than someone I'm rerouting.

I've had success OBing everything but X and O classes of service...presumably these classes are OB-able by inventory only to limit abuse of Div Miles and RTFC seats on a local level.

Please do try and report back on the results...I'm curious to know!
