Why is it KCKen complains that we don't have the balls to tell you MCI will close.
We? Don't tell me you've crossed over to the Dark Side :bleh:
Then when we tell him it will. You accuse me of being anxious to close it.
I didn't state any anxious desires, nor do I have the control over MCI or any other maintenance base. You obviously have issues and cannot be pleased no matter what is said here.
Seriously, as I've said before, all I'd like to see is the compAAny to give us the same ability to do long(er)-range planning as they do. Come on, folks, it's pAAinfully obvious they have no interest in this place -- other than to make damn sure it can't be reAAssembled into something that could be used as a MRO/FBO to compete with them.
The roof still leaks like a sieve, they can't repave the damn parking lot (but they sure can (text excised)-up the parking with a stupid re-striping layout) and there's only one elevator to get to Cubicle City, since they won't fix the escalator that comes up outside of the cafeteria (which is now closed too). PM projects all but stopped once Cubicle City transformed the old shops into a wAAsteland (and rendered it all but impossible to use the area as it was originally designed, see above). All the hoopla over the 767 MAUI is turning out to be a lot of hot air; I remember when there was the big ramp-up to do the 757 MAUI (which we did the guinea pig work for and nothing after that) and there's been nothing of the sort for the 767. With the 767 winglet rumors/realities (parts) it will surprise me if MCI does more than 3 or 4 more and that'll head south as well.
I can imagine many out there don't want MCI to close, because once we're gone there won't be a "cushion" that will protect the core AA facilities from the next reduction. But the reality has already been noted: the fleet size will soon be smaller than it was when there was only one AA maintenance base and AA really doesn't want to commit to MRO on a large scale. So come out and AAdmit it already.
Sure, you're going to have some idiots that will make an AAss out of themselves -- so fire them and you'll save the severance package. Advance notice (and I'm talking about several months, not 30 days) would give the smart ones the ability to plan an exit strategy into another career field or relocating without a big rush at the last minute.
Is this too much to ask? Guess so.
