Pittsburgh Gets A One Year Extension.

Pitbull:

Pitbull said: "Are you implying that U finance and Dave are lying? That wouldn't be unusal.. But, is that what is happening. That U has much more hidden money than they are willing to report to the SEC? Wouldn't that be fruad?"

Chip comments: Pitbull, the company basically issued a press report, which was not required to be released, immediately before the AGAA submitted its counterproosal to Governor Ed Rendell and the announcement of the heavy maintenance contract. I find the timing of a "not required" report suspect.

But fraud is probably to strong of a word because the press report had "no meat". Does US Airways have financial and /revenue cost challenges? Yes, but I believe the airline has the time to permit revenue enhancements (RJ's/alliances/marketing programs) to kick in while it continues to restructure to lower unit costs.

Apparently, investors think so too.

Perhaps all should reread the news release very carefully.

" In a letter delivered to Santorum's office on Wednesday, Siegel wrote, "If
you believe it would help the progress of negotiations with the state and
local officials, I will commit to publishing a January schedule that is
consistent with the current Pittsburgh schedule of approximately 400
flights per day." "

What about a February schedule?

Best of luck to all at U.

I believe this article has more information, especially regarding the legal character of the current and projected use deal between U and ACAA. FWIW, this article states that U has agreed to similar levels of service through Labor Day.

The deal with Santorum isn't legally binding. Whatever deal U and ACAA reach for occupancy of space at PIT will be binding on the parties by the terms of the agreement, whatever that is... implied by the article to possibly be a short-term non-signatory, more expensive lease.

As I said before, the PIT hub negotiations are being held hostage to United's exit financing, which is yet to be resolved. US Airways chairman of the board David Bronner is in this for an investment and will only acuqire United assets if he can do it to make a capital gain for RSA.

The United article hyperlinked could have a influence on the ACAA/PA - US Airways PIT negotiations and could be part of the delay.

A weird thing just happened. I was in the hallway and heard my child praying before going to sleep. My child said a prayer for Mr. Siegel and also if he would leave are family alone and go away.

--Gee another generation of hate.
This is very disturbing to me. I hope this is something you made up because you think its somehow "amusing" or makes some sort of point.

If you did not make this up, I think its a shame that your child even knows the name of Siegel and is stressed enough to be praying for your family to be left alone.

Perhaps you would consider protecting your child from your adult worries and thinking about how you vent and what you say in the household affects the young and innocent. Kids should be allowed to be kids, and not having to stress over Daddy's job.

I'm not picking a fight, I just hate to think of a child under stress that adults are putting on him/her.

What you say on here pretty much stays here... but kids hear and internalize all your stresses. Good luck.
Well said!

And to think we have people like the original poster perhaps coaching our kids in sports. Anyway, just to have a kid so you can hear those little prayers would be blessing enough for many many people.

Twenty years from now all this US/PIT ugliness will be long forgotten. But what will your kids most remember?

Good luck and God Bless.
Experts say it is prudent for your children even in their teenage years to understand family financial woes. I suspect my child has overheard talks and has to notice there is allot less cash in the house. Plus I have explained that I have taken major hits at work and things are different as we as a family prepare for unemployment or strike. These are hard facts to hide. For a child to be sheltered from everything in life would not teach that child about life or prepare that child for the 'real world' and for people like Dave Lorenzo who lie.

Pitguy,

I happen to agree with you. I have a son at home, and I had to explain why I sold my home 1 1/2 years ago. He understands money is tight, and that I need to use most of my resources to pay for my daughters education at Penn State.

These are the realities, and he understands that I just can't hand him money on "whims".

Chip, United, United, United. For the love of god, this company does not suck United's hind t*t. There are far too many internal issues at this company that have absolutely ZERO to do with United Airlines. If Siegel is waiting on United then we're really hosed! It's an interesting personal paradox that you throw out. But, it's just that, you're personal opinion that has nothing concrete to back it up. I don't care what Duane Woerth said at some ALPA meeting regarding United's DIP woes. We want facts Chip, like clandestine meetings between Siegel and Tilton. We want proof of your theories. Hallucinating between the corporate report filing lines does not count.

Where did Santorum get the information that Siegel would commit until Sept. 2004?
Historically, all airlines go through a minimum of 3 schedule cycles a year:
January to mid-May, mid-May to mid-September, mid-September thru December.

I have seen nothing from the Company that would indicate anything beyond January.

Are we witnessing another double-entendre on the part of Siegel, or possibly, Santorum?

From the HUB:

Yes to Request

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania announced this afternoon that US Airways has agreed to his request to operate a schedule comparable to its current one at Pittsburgh International Airport beyond Jan. 5, 2004. This decision will allow state and local Pennsylvania officials and US Airways more time to negotiate the future of the hub. The announcement follows a letter of request from Santorum to Dave Siegel, asking that US Airways retain a January schedule that is similar to today’s.

Siegel agreed to the proposal and, as a result, US Airways will finalize a winter schedule that will maintain approximately 400 daily flights – 122 mainline and 274 US Airways Express – beyond January 5, 2004. “I appreciate Senator Santorum’s desire to keep a productive dialogue going. We recognize that the effort to preserve the hub at Pittsburgh has been a priority for all parties, and we want to allow the process to continue,â€￾ Siegel said.

Your former statement is reason enough why Bronner is not going to finance the current management crew buying anything futher.

Your latter statement is roughly analagous to "Well, PIT will move to ORD because there is a Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," or something right out of a bad Oliver Stone movie.

In any case, U and Bronner would have to outbid DAL, CAL, and a few LCCs for any of UAs other assets--against companies with much better finances and much better existing synergies within their route networks.

Can we please stop the UAL conspiracy theory until an expert publishes something, as opposed to "informed sources say?"

It seems Dave LORENZO is attempting to distract everyone, especially the courts, by extending the PIT-hub deadline after all of his extortionary threats to PIT if his demands were not met.

Nice attempt at benevolence Dave.......Yeah---right something you know nothing about.

Add this to your list right after calling back mechs at PIT and PHL for de-icing FOR THE COMING WINTER SEASON??? But you recently told PIT Airport Authority to look for a vendor to do the de-icing.......what happened to that "Cost Reducing" initiative?? I sense some big-time back-peddling here. And what about any recalled mechs for deicing....what happens after winter season passes??? Let me guess......FURLOUGHED AGAIN!!!

You cannot fool anyone anymore Dave......your reputation precedes you. <_<

Keep up the good work SADDAM LORENZO a.k.a. Labor friendly Dave

E-TRONS OUT.

The original article from PennLive doesn't specify how many of the 400 flights are mainline's. It just states that he would maintain 400 flights out of PIT for January(now adjusted to 400 for the Winter season by TheHub). It could be 0 mainline and 400 express/MDA flights. <_<
