Pit To Lose 757

the article stated b-767s and that it could be used for las vegas flts but i thought that it was just the 57s and the airbus that usair used?

the article mentions nothing about 757s. Only the 767. And, it said that "the planes also had been used on routes to Las Vegas". When did US fly 767's to Vegas?

I'm guessing it just means there will no longer be PIT-based 757 trips, not flights. For example, before they got rid of the MD80, it was based in PIT meaning only PIT crews worked it, but it still flew throughout the system. The pilots will have to either switch bases to stay on the 75, or aircraft to stay in PIT, but it wouldn't mean that 757s no longer fly in and out of PIT, but it's a possibility.

The 757s these days seem to do LAS, PHX, and Florida. Transcon routes are all Airbus.

PIT crewbase will probably exclusively Airbus by the end of the year. So, I've heard through the grapevine.

Also AUA, BDA, SXM, STT, EGE, SJU I'm sure I forgot a couple....

Pilots are trained to fly 757 and 767. In fact they may fly both A/C in the same line of flying or on the same day.

The 767 left PIT when the international flights. Most of trip were 757 to LAS,TPA,MCO or in and out of PHL & CLT.

Light is correct - the June pilot bid removes the last of the 757/767 crews from the PIT domicile. Presumably, that will mean the end of 757/767 trips for PIT F/A's also, since they bid on the same monthly schedules we do.

Jim, That is correct. There are 8 line of flying and 4 F/A on each line. That's 32 bid positions plus open time. This will affect about 75 F/A's is my guess.

This I have no idea about. Right now (meaning Jun, "now" in the world of pilot base bids) there are more 737 pilot positions than little Bus positions. So far the reductions have affected them about equally, keeping the number of 737 crews 10-15 above Bus crews.

It'll be interesting (though that's not the word the folks based there would use) to see if PIT keeps shrinking to a point that it's cheaper to close it as a crewbase completely. It's already (ok, as of June) as small as some that were closed after the merger.

Jim, some guy named Chip is saying the PIT base will get big again after the United merger says the new airline will be called TedWays.

Let me guess - there'll be 747 and 777 crews based there and he'll be able to get his old UA seniority number back too.....

:stupid: :stupid:
