What's new

Pics of NEW a321 N193UW

Back when we ordered those MD80 want to be's, Wolf had to oversee the entire thing. At the time we were merging with UAL. They wanted to remove the slide pack from 2LR and 3LR and use the 2L door for boarding like the 757. Well, one engine was hit and that was the end of that expensive. The jetways came too close to the engine. Because the slides come from underneath at the 2LR 3LR doors they are not EOW.

You can't remove the slide pack as long as it is an exit as it is required by the FAA and the aircraft maker. Anyway, the a/c would have to go through a recertification process and taking away 4 exits may not help that cause. 3LR are not boarding doors as they are too small for that function.

The A321's could be configured for EOW ops. They do not have survival kits, HF radios, water activated ELT's that are required for EOW.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the current A321 slides are slide/rafts, so all that would be necessary would be to add the appropriate EOW emergency equipment and radios to make them eligible to fly beyond 162NM from landfall.

If you were to pay attention to the safety video, you would know that the slides at 1L/R, 2L/R and 4L/R are equipped with slides that can also be used as inflatable rafts.

The AB321 doesn't have slide/rafts. But they are quick release and the slides can be used as flotation devices. They do have 2 ELT's. But the new ones coming on line just have one in the aft left area.

I guess the company doesn't want to spend the money to make them EOW.

That's not what the poster was commenting on. Maybe I read wrong.

N194UW got her wings(went airborne) on Aug. 19th, she'll be on the property within 2 weeks🙂

A/C 194, the second new A-321 entered service today on a CLT-LGA-CLT-DFW routing and looked great. It's nice to start getting brand new aircraft again.

What I'm waiting for is a PAX NiCad battery to "take-off" since everyone will be stretching their laptops to the brink since we 86'ed the IFE...

I can see it now....smoke in the cabin...(declare...land off-route somewhere...)

lets see....whats the 321 hold? 182 pax?

misconnects
hotels
rebookings
booking aways

How much did those power-ports cost again? amortized over the lease?....

hmmm

brilliant.

The "brain-trust" in Tempe just refuses to believe that people will actually book away from US because of our inferior product.

And, with the key exception of the frontline employees, it is inferior...all the way around.
