That was all the full time counter agents going home at the end of their shift ... after standing for 8.5 hours without a stool. US Airways is the only airline that outlaws them. Agents are having all kinds of foot, leg and back problems as a result .... just a little respect / stool is all they want???? Next time you walk up to a counter and he / she can barely smile it may be because their feet are killing them .... Little things lead to good moral and good customer service

US would rather pay workmans comp for crippled feet than one falling off a stool because of the baggage belt.
As for the Whooshing part of it...there will come a day when an emergency will appear late at night with no managers on duty. Until then it is 9-5 weekends off for the little sand fleas that run our stations. Does the sandcastle know that they don't to a GD thing and are MIA most of the time sucking US dry?

its very true about the emergency issues and diversions situations at all our stations at end of night. but they only need to have a GSC to be at the station unitl the last flight leaves after that the burden rest upon the junior agents on duty to handle any situations with the customers such as complaints and any emergency situations. by the time you call OCC the station manager etc the crap has already hit the fan and if you had SHIFT MANAGERS ON DUTY AT ALL TIMES ESPECIALLY during those critical moments that small time frame does make a big difference .. or just have UNIONZED SUPERVISORS closing the stations like they should be. you want the TITLE and get paid less than a CSA gets paid at the end of the year then you need to PUT UP . I realize it looks good on your resume for future employment but that does not help US right now. like ive said dont be surprised with the last meeting in Sept with CWA and Company that you will find shift managers working till the last flight leaves and UNIONIZED SUPERVISORS will be turned into Shift Managers and maybe make more than .49 cents per hour

"UNIONIZED SUPERVISORS will be turned into Shift Managers"

WHAT ....... Think about it for a minute. You simply can not have unionized management.

Not sure if anyone else has heard, but I guess in BUF management advised the part timers, effective
January 2008, part time hours are being reduced to 4 hours per day ?

huh? how will unionized supes be turned into shift managers? what happens to the current shift managers? I think with the last meeting and more meetings to come..you will see shift managers opening and closing stations---as it should be. CSS are in the same union we are and should not have the added responsibility of mandating...they have enough on their plates. The whole point of creating more shift manager spots was so they on on at almost all times.....jmo

I agree, its even in the company's best interest to have a MANAGEMENT / NON-UNION employee on duty the entire shift, day and night. Shift managers usually work from an office and should monitor employee attendance, sick calls, and on-time arrival to work etc. They should make all the mandatory OT decisions and monitor all oversold and late flights on their shift. They should be on duty to over see any irregular ops (diversion, buses etc) until closing. Remember new hire agents are on duty late.

Unionized supervisor (CSS's) are on the floor and very busy all day assisting customers and co-workers (CSA's). CSS's should constantly be in training mode, teaching new agents and helping agents new to their position. CSS's should be assigned to assist on all over sold, and delayed flights when connections are a problem.

These duties should be clearly defined somewhere.

there are many stations out there that management treats Unionzed Sups as management and they are not out there all the time working the oversales etc and taking their 15/30/15 breaks.. i know of stations out there where the sups have been told. yes you are in the union but you are given other rights because you do management work .. you will see it all change the sups will become Lead Agents with no power like they have on the ramp and you will see more Shift Managers like they do with the America West side.. the sups should not have been included in the union.. but like i said they made up the majority of the original negotionating team for the contract. original US management did not want them in the union and they were right... A UNION SUPERVISOR... whats that all about..

also like i had said either they will be turned into Shift Managers or give the opportunity or they may just become Lead Agents and as a Lead they can stay union.. Sups for the longest time were mandatoring agents when they werent supposed to they werent management but you know we were told to greive it and not say NO. and still nothing came of it for years and now with the merger its being addressed. FINALLY.

The way its been done in the past made little sense for the union or the company. Many times IV seen CSS's pad their shift, handing out overtime so they could spend half of it in the back taking care of personal business.

Shift managers are more mindful of the budget and are rewarded for a good operation.

CSS's will mandatory in a NY minute so they don't have to work as hard. I have also seen CSS's give their buddies an extra 2 hours to hang around and work one flight so they could take a two hour break.

I think we have good upper management and they'll do the right thing at the station level soon.
