Not sure if anyone else has heard, but I guess in BUF management advised the part timers, effective
January 2008, part time hours are being reduced to 4 hours per day ?
That must be a local decision. Part timers can be scheduled up to 6 hours, but it is not a requirement.
A real union would end that practice, but I forget who we are talking about.
i guess i am missing something here...contact the union...? why? they have no pull over us having 4 hour shifts....we complain and nada happens....i have said from the beginning that this contract protects FT only yet part timers make up the majority of the workforce anymore....how does that get changed when no one seems to be listening and more importantly ACTING UPON IT??? Part timers are screwed all the way around.....BUF doing what they are doing is a TOTAL LOCAL thing.. keep in budget so management makes the Bonus check.. the CWA contract allows up 6 hrs.. but in many stations part timers are scheduled for 6.5 and get paid for 6 totally within contract. if there is any station doing the split shift stunt you have one foot on Jupiter.. contact your union local . the original negotionating committey for this company for the contract was made of very SENIOR FOLKS INCLUDING SUPERVISORS. no SENIOR PART TIMERS or anyone who really wanted to speak... the part timers in the company have contributed big time to the success of this company. the original folks thought that PIT would be around forever. the original folks who thought of themselves in our first contract are long gone. going back to BUF.. TOTALLY LOCAL these managers do their thing.. and believe me.. THEY GET BIG TIME BONUSES . to keep charges low.. they are under the big time gun.. many of them are either bored with their lives and have nothing else to do or just doing it because it will look good on a resume..
