Not sure if anyone else has heard, but I guess in BUF management advised the part timers, effective
January 2008, part time hours are being reduced to 4 hours per day ?

That is what it should have been all along. The 6 hour shifts were criminal. Part-Time means part-time!

Just feel lucky that they don't split your shift with two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon with your lunch in the three hour break.........................this has happened before.

been on 4.0 per day since jan.

after taxes and insur I net a whopping 271.! for a 40 hr pay!

yeppers, so plan on looking for a 2nd income..hrs are tuff to get, if you feel like returning to pick up a PM shift..I choose not-so my 2nd job works good for now..

Good Luck you will need it. Im not being negative just telling it like it is-not sugar coating it...this company has gone to hell..if the manager stays under BUDGET, he get's his at the end of the year.

4 hours a day is all that has been allowed in my station also.....not good to have a blanket rule like that, cuz depending on the manpower available for your city and your flt sked, you cannot possibly have ample coverage available for the whole day if needed. The 6 hr max rule has been in place for a very long time, but the budget and the mgmt bonus's plays a big part in whether or not you work short in your city at times.......we cannot squeeze another 1/2 hr for the agents working during peak flt times....he just wont allow it.....its a joke

I NO LONGER STRESS about getting extra hrs, some at my station work both their days off..Have at it!

I leave when my time is up-and of course I DO NOT STAY when things go to hell..not the only one there...sorry........kiss my @$$....

buh bye!!!

BUF doing what they are doing is a TOTAL LOCAL thing.. keep in budget so management makes the Bonus check.. the CWA contract allows up 6 hrs.. but in many stations part timers are scheduled for 6.5 and get paid for 6 totally within contract. if there is any station doing the split shift stunt you have one foot on Jupiter.. contact your union local . the original negotionating committey for this company for the contract was made of very SENIOR FOLKS INCLUDING SUPERVISORS. no SENIOR PART TIMERS or anyone who really wanted to speak... the part timers in the company have contributed big time to the success of this company. the original folks thought that PIT would be around forever. the original folks who thought of themselves in our first contract are long gone. going back to BUF.. TOTALLY LOCAL these managers do their thing.. and believe me.. THEY GET BIG TIME BONUSES . to keep charges low.. they are under the big time gun.. many of them are either bored with their lives and have nothing else to do or just doing it because it will look good on a resume..

i guess i am missing something here...contact the union...? why? they have no pull over us having 4 hour shifts....we complain and nada happens....i have said from the beginning that this contract protects FT only yet part timers make up the majority of the workforce anymore....how does that get changed when no one seems to be listening and more importantly ACTING UPON IT??? Part timers are screwed all the way around.....

Aaah but with the 4.0 hour part time rule you can double with an 8 hour full timer and not go over the contract max for 12.0 hours in a day, which by the way it is a stupid rule since the company can mando for 16-20 hours a day.

Alas, as far as managements big bonus....the 4.0 part time agent has powers that they do not utilize. Get the lines long, slow it down big time, don't p/u the required overtime to run a small station and for goodness sake don't answer your phone on your days off !

Show the managers you rule the roost, yea they chintz on the 4.0 but if the operation is not operating properly with the slow down they will have no choice but to change these hours.

Now for Kao, I understand your animosity because I read all of your threads. If you cannot get them to up the hours just work smart, slow and coy. They will have to mando with all the delayed flights you can transpire. Most major companies with part time scheduled only work the part timers at 4.0 which is the part time rationale of an 8.0 shift. The logic for part time is to fill the necessary holes and breaks of the full time operation yet decrease the cost in medical and overtime which is an important surplus for an airline to survive monetarily. Slow it down guys and get the results you wish for. The flip side to all these complaints is when the mando is given to bring the part timers up to 6 hours , 3/4 of you all would complain you were kept longer. NOW ADMIT IT! It is true and I have witnessed it in several stations.

hmmm read again i said if your station is doin split shifts contact your local CWA rep .. where is your local shop steward? you can work out thing locally and thats what the union and the company wants. the unions have always favored full timers it has been a given since the first un. ion appeared 60 years ago. part timers are to fill in where needed. the view is if you work part time then you must be RICH otherwise you would be working full time if you want to work more you may need to transfer this company is so short of help everywhere. your local management person is playing big time games. you need to work locally as long as it goes by contract because when you start doing things to make people happy they do tend to kick you in the face later when THAT does not work for them anymore. there is also the 4 on 3 day off that local management can try to work out.. right now though they are kissing the UNIONIZED SUPERVISORS... butts to make them happy while the rest .. wellll

forgot to mention remember big time... only MANAGEMENT can MANDATORY... that has been a given since we had a contract so be sure when you leave you leave its up to MANAGEMENT to MANDATORY you and you need to be given a 1 hour notice and you are NOT TO BE MANDATORIED ON YOUR DAY OFF>.... UNIONIZED SUPERVISORS ARE NOT MANAGEMENT BUT THEY WILL SOON>> details at 11
