"flying less passengers" THAT will be news to the FACTS:
ATW ONLINE http://www.atwonline.com/news/other.html?i...e=3%2F17%2F2008
US airlines carried 769.4 million passengers in 2007, up 3.3% from 2006 and an all-time high, according to US Dept. of Transportation statistics released last week. Domestic passengers were up 3.1% to 679 million while international passengers rose 4.7% to 90 million. Southwest Airlines carried more total system passengers (101.9 million) than any other carrier, the first time it has topped the list, besting American Airlines (98.2 million), which led each of the previous five years. Total US airline system traffic increased 4% to 829.4 billion RPMs on a 3.1% lift in capacity to 1.04 trillion ASMs, producing a load factor of 79.9%, up 0.7 point.
Moreover...Steenland / AND the current NW BOD had better give their lawyers a call. I've read there are some shareholders who are MORE than a little upset at no hedges in place...ONCE AGAIN! There has been precedent set for failing to ensure safe harbor in relation to a necessary element of the business operation.

Well...there may be "options" to address the incompetency of airline management. Management, who's only skill at managing an airline is cut work force cut pay when there is a failure to properly hedge a REQUIRED element of the business.
I think it is the "fear monger" we must merge card he is playing. Notice how he came out in concert with Anderson about "job cuts". What the hell is he gonna "CUT"...it is a BARE BONES operation as it is!
A lawyer with NO BUSINESS skill or professional business accumen, who has demonstrated for the last 15 years a complete lack of skill. It is the utter fault of the flunky Northwest Board of Directors. The shareholders get what they deserve...a $5.00 share price. I bet they are having second thoughts about the BIG $26.6 mil pay day reward now! HA HA
