Opposition To Wn At Sea

Hey, HumanFreight --
RTF post. The comment you are responding to was that SWA brings significant tax revenue to Dallas. No where did they suggest that SWA is the largest payer of taxes in the district. I know, don't confuse you with the facts!

Regardless, a $15 million annual corporate tax liability can fund a lot of bribes down at Dallas city hall!

Everyone points to the taxes that WN pays to the city like it should give the airline Carte Blanche over the city in all matters concerning Love Field. Your comment about bribes at City Hall makes me wonder if you are bragging.

We all wish our tax rates with the City County and School District were as low as WN's. Maybe you are right about the bribes who knows?

.... Besides Southwest is the villian in this instance and all the harping about low fares will not change that.

It's all in your perspective. I don't see how SWA's asking for a law to be repealed is any worse than AA's premise that this federal law is incapable of being changed.

Call SWA the "villian" if you wish. It's a whole lot better than the "Sky Nazi" title AA has earned! :D

Ok, how about we go back to civilized terms saying SWA and me are for repealing the Wright Amendment, AA/DFW and you are not. It will ultimately be decided by Congress, not the airlines or airports. All the commercial parties are fully capable and free to utilize their PR machines however they wish. It still won't let them make the final decision.

Before you go about ignoring the "lower fares" issue, however, do recall that the two independent studies performed on behalf of each opposing side came up with identical conclusions regarding air fares being substantially lower if the Wright Amendment is repealed. Amazing that DFW/AA didn't include that fact in their press release but rather kept it hidden deep inside the 160 page report.

Read Mitchell Schnurman's column in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (6/5/05) if you've forgotten how he criticized DFW's administration for being less than forthcoming with the public!

Actually I could have worded my message much better. The intent was not to indicate that SWA participated in any bribes because I know the integrity of SWA's leadership. Based on your own agenda, however, I wouldn't expect you to believe my original intent anyway so I'll just let it drop.

Unnecessary improvements?  They had to come up with a better system for security.  Each concourse had it's own and if you were connecting you had to re-screen.  Then there was the food issue.  Food choices on the concourses were limited.  No they did not have to go so extravagant, but a central restaraunt area inside sucurity was nessecary.  The basic layout of SEA-TAC prior to the re-mod dated back to the 50's

SEA-TAC is without question THE WORST DESIGNED AIRPORT IN THE US -- I put that in caps for a reason. Ground transportation into and out of the airport is a cluster! After you get your luggage you must go up one level, across the sky walk, and again go down a level to catch ground transportation. Try doing this with a few bags, a few kids, and you'll swear to yourself you'll never, ever, want to fly into and out of this airport again.
