If you go by these rankings DL is the #13 international carrier (RPK's). Which includes all world carriers. The lastest issue (NOV) of ATW (shown by your measure PAX carried) has DL #4 (international 4,024,000) behind AA-9,433,000, UA-5,054,00, and CO-4,609,000. Domestically DL is 2 behind AA, but Wn is rapidly catching up.
Yes...#13 international...that is just looking at the carriers' international routes. The first chart is "system" which is the carriers' domestic + international routes (hence the higher RPKs) and that is where DL was listed #2. I had read it several times before finding these #'s as well so it wasn't something I just made up.
And as I cannot get nov ATW data (please post link if you have it), I can only go by final 2004 traffic figures (http://www.atwonline.com/channels/dataAirl...report_2004.pdf). They have AA at 92,565,000 pax and DL at 86,901,000 pax. Third is WN at 81,150,000 and fourth is AF/KLM at 64,075,000. Again...I would assume that your stats are only the int'l pax carried. I know that DL is not high internationally alone but their domestic network added to their int'l makes them #2 worldwide. I had hoped to be clear in the larger statistics I was looking at but am sorry if I confused you.
The pilots will accept the cuts. Cooler heads will prevail. It's tough to take the cuts because they have become accustomed to living on the wages they take home now. But if you think about it rationally, it's not that bad. If the average pilot make 125k and they take a huge cut of say 30%. They still make over 87K a year. There are some who will quit over this because they can make more elsewhere. But the majority will stay because they cna't make this much anywhere else. Sure they'll be mad, but time will allow them to adjust.
The picture looks less bleak with the real #'s:
Current Avg DL pilot salary: 169k
Proposed Cut (from current): 20%
New Salary: 135,200...still pretty good compared to other professions. That's more than most MDs.
