Now, let's not get all 'Khaki' again.

Am I the only one that finds this hysterical? I mean how long have we been flying? AA, UA, DL, SW, NW, ect are all flying around without too much of an issue yet here we sit. "Hello Flight Attendants, this is an airplane! This is how the carry-on goes. This is how you close a door. This how you make an announcement. This is how you move a passenger. What next? This is how you pluck your stray nose hair out? Please stop treating us as baboons. We know what the heck we are doing you don't give us the support to do it!
Don't you know it is a never ending High School around here??

US Airways paints yet another piano...

Tempe is really good at doing nothing substantial on a regular basis. It boggles my mind how the board of directors continue to watch these ridiculous directives fail again and again, but they do nothing to remove the Chairman and CEO to punish him for repeated failure.

Is this how business works in the Twenty-First Century? Recycling half-baked, ineffective ideas until the employees are demoralized and burnt out to the point of quitting just to make a buck?

Pathetic!

Lets play devils advocate for a few. Can anyone see anything non insulting or positive in this directive? Or shall we say, crack of the whip?

Wish all they want. Use a cattle prod to get the people on board. Close the door. It will still take me some time to download 6000lbs. It will take me more time to upload another 6000lbs. I might be able to do it a little quicker but topped out ramp rat pay only gets you so much. The on-time performance is really in my hands. The plane can't go anywhere till I finish loading it.

Not certain I am answering your question.

Black gate supervisor in PIT insisted early door closure. I said no. Chief pilot got involved. Black gate supervisor gone next week. As it should be.

Is there a cut off time that pax have to be at the gate? Say like 15 minutes prior or it's too bad for you?

If this is what they want, they have to stop sending people down 7 mins prior with 2 or more large bags.

There needs to be a time when the door of the jet way closes and that is it.

The final 10 minutes could then be used to wrap things up.

I find it funny that the gate agents stand at the door with paper work in hand as they follow the last passenger down the jet way. Now, at this point they are pushing you to shut the door. But wait!!! You just brought someone down with bags and they need to stow them.....so how in the heLL am I goiing to close the door?

This can be done, but it has to start from the top (agents)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) Monitor bags better: Just because it has wheels, doesn't make it a carry-on. Have you seen the size of some "personal" items? One should be
checked as it won't fit under the seat.

2) Learn the aircraft you are boarding: Stop putting children in the exit rows and/or carseats in front of or behind the exit row!!!

3) Stop making flight attendants reseat split families: The customers tell you of this situation and you tell them to let the flight attendant know..NO! that should be your responsibility!

How do you expect all this on the aircraft and have to door closed??????

And the kicker is the agents write up the flight attendants!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!

Why not preboard Non Rev Employees and let then assist with baggadge and overheads and directing people to their seats? We can also help out with the Switching of seats for the PAX I do this all the time as a non rev.

Sure, let's have employees work for free.

Why not just get a computer system that doesn't have 10 dupe seats on every flight, or aircraft configurations that have enough space for people's bags and coats?

If you post a departure time, then stand by it. No special rules about being early, no bag limit, the pax shows 3 seconds prior to posted departure time, that is it, they are on.

What is so difficult about that?

Why are we trying to be authoritarian richards about this? Actually, why are we allowing incompetent management to put this pony on our backs? Put it back on the Tempe morons. Make those fornicators helpers of sheep through stiles do some work, for once.

1. For the most part, the crew I work with include the agents. If there is a problem, likely it stems from management incompetence. In any case, the people I work with try to resolve the problem and provide a framework to avoid similar future problems. This is not rocket science. But it does require involvement by all. However, when management does not respond in a productive manner, then all considerations but safety go out the window and the press will get involved.

Side question:

Ann Coulter has publicly advocated flying commercial aircraft into buildings in NYC. Is she (he) a terrorist threat?
