Official: AMR Bankrupt

There is over capacity in the market...plane and simple. Expect AA to launch a big seat sale. Prices will be slashed to fill seats and the market will be forced to follow. The same gameplan was used by US Air when they filed for bankruptcy.

What do you want me to do, sugarcoat the reality for you? My response was to Hopeful claiming the pilots would lose the most. That also seems to be a theme with many at AA that I have run across and I pragmatically responded with the truth. Don't like it? Niether do I. Just about every job in the USA requiring minimal education has been outsourced or beat into the ground regarding pay/benefits, mainly by Wall Street pr@#s that simply dance from making money from manufacturing in Syracuse that was switched to Shanghai. These same pr#$#s expect security and protection for the energy supplies to run their Asian factories and investments to be provided with the blood and lives of the same US high school graduates that they stole their future from. Take a look at the Iraq oilfield and Afghan mining contracts awarded to the Chinese.

Am I clear now?

I think that when it's said that the pilots have more lose to it's referring to their pensions which if dumped in the PBGC would probably exceed the max payout. Bob from USAir? says he is only getting 40% of his pension after 30 years.

Bob thanks for your post on your locals website. Wish other locals did the same, but maybe they have not got the message yet TWU stay informed!!!!

the intl. is giving updates also http://aa.twu.org for what its worth

That is why pilots come back to AA on recall after years of being laid off. Get over yourself.........
Some do, some don't. I ran into an ex AA pilot who was now flying for some charter company and he turned down recall.

Wrong, you see my tools and knowledge of systems are transferrable to work on anything mechanical, be it a lawnmower engine , an x ray machine, an air conditioner or a power plant supplying electricity to a city, and most of those jobs top out more than what we make. Mechanics will be fine. By the way AA employs mechanics in Europe, and they earn around $10hr more than us.
Thank You!!!!!
I can only hope they can recognize the differance between a A/P mechanic and a credit union clerk with a fake license!!

Horton pays more in property taxes than you make yearly.
I couldn't afford 74k.

He wouldn't give a rats arse about any employee.

He wants rid of OH.
He wants rid of pensions.
He wants rid of retiree medical.
He wants rid of pilot scope.

Did Horton receive bonuses? You bet he did.

The reason Arpey left is he wasn't going to be the hatchet man.

You better hang on because its all set in motion.

During the United BK they gave retiree medical as an incentive to retire. I doubt they get rid of retiree medical. If so, nobody would retire and I think they'd love to have as many retire as possible.

Only 1 out of 10 are accepting the recall offer to return to American as a pilot. some classes have been short of spots because of last minute cancellations.

What does that tell you?
Tells me that your recall rate was higher than ours, out of 300 in NY they got less than 20.

Subsequent rulings from the courts have outlawed the unions from striking upon an abrogation.
Not so, they ruled that the injunction blocking the strike was legal, not that striking was illegal and it was never brought to supreme court.

They can't afford to lose mechanics.

Where will the new pay rate appear on this chart. Do I dare say "off the chart"
Or do they take the lowest and throw it in that range.

Before the pilots are solely blamed for BK...........

Horton said, however, that there was no single factor that led to the bankruptcy filing. He said the company needed to cut costs in view of the weak global economy and high, volatile fuel prices. The average price of jet fuel has risen more than 50 percent in the past five years.

It's amazing how quickly everyone wants to start blaming the pilots for all the problems.

Let's start with a reminder to all. After 9/11, the industry went into a tailspin. The AA pilots took major concessions to keep the boat afloat. That would be the boat you all were riding in. I was always impressed that AA did not follow suit and file BK back then. Whatever the APA was asking in contract negotiations was not even close to what was given up back then. Heck, it barely makes up for the cost of living increases in the last 10 years, let alone what was given up.

At UA, during our ridiculous 3+year bankruptcy we were sold concession after concession. Two rounds worth. Not to mention the distressed termination of the pensions. Some pilots took over 40% pay cuts! The whole time we heard the chant of "shared sacrifice - shared reward." That was managements tag line. When we emerged we watched Tilton line his pockets with his "reward" and stonewall us trying to get our reward. Now here we are with Continentals management, a profitable airline, and STILL working under a bankruptcy contract. So much for shared reward. It is the pilots who historically take the lions share of cuts, yet never seem to get it back in good times. A "thank you" from the other groups would be appropriate. But instead everyone is so quick to point the finger back to the pilots again. I say APA was smart taking a hard line. No amount of concessions would have made a difference. they are in a stronger position now going in. Good for them. In fact they better stand even stronger now and don't believe any promises of pay back, if only they gave up one more thing, etc. You all have the benefit of seeing what happened to us at UA and also at DL.

Chin up, and may this process be quick and with the least amount of pain possible. Try to resist the urge of turning against your fellow employees. Especially the ones who helped keep you out of BK this long.

tulsa may get hit and line will close more class 2 stations , but I think pilots and f/a take the biggest hit, mostly coming in work rule changes, staffing , productivity and we all get it in the shorts with pensions/retiree medical plus the outsourcing the twu agreed to in current defunked t/a for flleet

Key point in all the jobs you noted. None of those things have wings and fly all over the place routinely. Aircraft maintenance work is highly portable.

Mechanics will suffer undoubtedly. All airline BK's resulted in not only benefits and pensions getting hammered, but work getting outsourced at rates never before seen. Use the others as an example and you'll see that a bunch of heavy overhaul and mods were outsourced.

AA employs about 50 mechanics in Europe at higher wages assuming your info is correct. So you are saying since AA pays market rate in the UK that they can pay that in the US? Is that market rate for overhaul in the US? Is that market rate for line in the US? 3000 plus at Southwest, UPS, and FedEx don't don't constitute market rate when United, Continental, US, Alaska, and Delta pay $33 an hour.

Bob, you can show us how successful your arguments are in BK court now. It's game on for you now. I am so excited to see you dazzle and mesmerize that Federal BK judge. Can we watch on Court TV?

lots of speculation on what the company will or will not do.....but, one thing is for sure, every work group, including management, will see reductions in pay and benefits, and work rules will be one-sided. The company decimated our labor agreements in 2003 within 10 minutes, and the NEW employment contract between AA and labor will look similar to a self-imposed "yellow dog" contract. Will NOT be good for anyone!

bottom line.....start looking for better employment opprotunities, I'm done with AA and the aviation industry!!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!
