The controversy over President Obama's speech to the nation's schoolchildren will likely be over shortly after Obama speaks today at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. But when President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1, 1991, from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC, the controversy was just beginning. Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush's speech -- they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue.

The launch of Get Schooled, at the Paramount Pictures lot, includes a conference featuring a line-up of distinguished speakers: Bill Gates, Philippe Dauman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller, filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, author and political columnist Arianna Huffington, New York City Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein and Los Angeles-area High School Athletic Director Stephen Minix. The education conference will be attended by an audience of almost one thousand – including corporate and nonprofit partners, students, thought leaders, celebrities and other education stakeholders. Its goal is to highlight fresh perspectives on ways to dramatically increase high school graduation rates and college completion rates. The speakers will draw from their personal and professional experiences, sharing insights on how to ensure that all students receive a top-notch education and are ready to compete in a global marketplace.

No child left behind and other such programs have nothing to do with accreditation. School districts are the ones who purchase the books. Accreditation merely says that anyone coming from this school has an education that meets certain standards in terms of knowledge of science, math ...etc. SAme thing as quality assurance programs.

As far as I am aware, the federal government has nothing to do with school accreditation. Local school boards for the most part control what is taught and how it is taught at the grade school level.

I believe if you search...your boy already referred to them as czars.....

And to compare his czars and Bush's ....is at best a shot in the dark.

Have you by chance looked into the portfolio's of these present Czar's and their ideology?

Do you support these Czar's and their political beliefs/ideologies?

What do you think these Czar's affect will be to your and my country and the Constitution?

And you approve of these encroachments upon our Constitutional liberties?

I hope you see these peoples ideologies as an affront to our Constitutional protections.
