The problem is that it isn't a flag. It's a sanitized, corporatized impression of a flag. US Airways is not the United States of America. I think the logo looks good, but is vaguely disrespectful and should be dropped. Flags are the things that drape coffins of soldiers killed in battle. Submitted respectfully, because I can understand people liking the logo and wanting to raly around it.

I dont think the U flag is disrespectful. Flags are used for many things and they are not just used to be drapped over coffins. Among other things flags can be used to show leadership and victory. Usairways is not trying to be the United States of America. Yes the flag is in the shape and does resimble the flag of the United States. If nothing else, i think the U flag was chosen because its an american based airline and it goes along with the name "US" Airways, but
i would hardly call that disrespective.

I like the flag logo. Many airlines use thier country's flag- British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and BMI are good examples. North American Airlines uses the US flag and it looks kind of cheap. Ours, in my opinion is respectful and classy. I cringe at the current lack of branding... ours is timeless and immediatly recognizable and I hope they dont tamper with it. I hope they dont stray from it in an attempt to be "trendy"... US Airways always fails when they try to be hip. If the fashion is in New York, US is in Omaha.

I like the US logo flag as well. I thought all the planes when first painted after we became USAirways looked super. I really do NOT care for this new paint job and USAirway.com....no brainer.....Thing. It is UGLY and cheap looking.

The airline that has all of the different animals painted on the Tail look really neat. Isn't that Frontier???? :huh: 🙂

Yes that is Frontier, once again the planes are left unpainted due to the lap joint and etching repairs made to the airplanes. They have to undergo repetitive inspections which would require the paint to be stripped every time then repainted.

I don't like the way the planes look, but it is cost effective to leave them bare.

Ok, I concede. Maybe I just find it disturbing, conceptually. I feel like the motto under the logo should read "Ce-ci n'est pas une 'flag'" Unless there is an actual US Airways flag that flies over CCY. Is there? Art History courses ruin you for the real world.

It's an interesting question about the difference from the use of 'red, white and blue' and the use of a 'stylized flag emblem like logo' One suggests to me a reverence or emotion that is felt when you experience a flag, the other a sort of sly misappropriation, especially in a corporate way. THere's no question that the gratuitous use of red white and blue is likely aimed at linking the product with a vague since of patriotism or the US. But I think I'm much more easily convinced that red white and blue suggests the allegience of the company to the US.

I mean is the flag symbol the corporate symbol of US Airways or is it a symbol of the USA? It doesn't strike me as an appropriate or effective evocation of the USA.

But, I guess the Puerto Rican flag evokes the US flag, doesn't it? So, then PR acknowledges its US connection by designing its flag to be somwhat similar. (Actually, I'm a bit unsure of the PR flag being old-glory like.)

Like, I said, I'll concede, grudgingly.

What about British Airways or Virgin Atlantic who use the Union Jack on their tails of thier planes? And there are probably numerous airlines that use their country's flag in their livery.

What about WN and HP who have whole planes painted in the flags of states?

WN has CA and AZ, and I know HP has AZ and OH.
