No Snacks Starting June 1st?

It is sad to see the snacks go but has anyone been shopping lately? Everything has gone up. I've stop buying milk because it's too expensive and I can never finish it up before it goes bad. Eggs are anywhere from $4-$5 and forget about fruit...I bought a banana in Madison Square for 99 cents!

It's called inflation dear...apparently the EU is set out on crushing the US economy with China pulling the puppet strings...It's Team America allover again. (Does anyone remember Hughes AirWest)?

I don't know where Madison Square is, but in the burbs of Philly, I bought a banana at my local Wawa (our local version of a minimart) for 35 cents. Time to grow a garden.

Instead of just dropping snacks all together, US Airways should contact Frito-Lay, Planters, Hershey's, etc... and try and make some sort of deal. It seems every time I go to the grocery store there is a new flavor of Doritos on the shelf. Who wants to buy a huge bag of their latest crazy concoction before having a taste test? I think I would be more inclined to buy then next time I went to the grocery store if I had a small free sample onboard. Every month could be a new snack which would be kind of a treat for passengers since all we get is pretzels every single time. US Airways could offer a free full page ad in it's magazine, and maybe some sort of coupon people could use when they go to a grocery store. I don't know, it's just an idea, those companies could probably care less, but why not at least pick up the phone and ask instead of just cutting everything.

I had a conversation with a woman who is a travel agent the other day. She was telling me about a client who paid next to nothing for a vacation in the Caribbean and then complained that the hotel was "shabby". The reality is, Americans want a free lunch and an airfare that would better be charged by Greyhound. As much as it pains me to admit this, this is one area that Tempe really does get it. I just wish I wasn't along for the ride.

But somebody tell me this: Why do we have to be first with this stuff? Sigh.

At the very least they could be more up front about it. Put it on the printout/ ticket/ eticket whatever so people know. Surely one can phrase "you have seat and that's it, no food, no entertainment and no drink unless you pay for it" nicely?

And if it were up to me it'd be in BIG CAPITALIZED FLAMING RED INK! This should be a fun summer.

Who doesn't? Problem is, people are not willing to pay for it.

I bet we are charging for everything by the end of the year, including sodas. People need to grasp the severity of this current fuel crisis.

While the fuel situation is a crisis - charging for cans of soda is not a way to avert the problem. US isn't going to become profitable by selling soda on their flights and getting rid of the little packages of pretzels. That stuff is just a distraction that really shows that the people that run airlines in the United States have no idea how to make the business model one that is sustainable and profitable.

Get real.... the way to avert the problem is to create additional revenue, and I am all for it. The airlines are in an operating environment similar to, and possibly worse than, 9/11. And you think they are just trying to distract you from the "real" problems? Maybe you could suggest a profitable, sustainable business model with oil heading north of $115 a barrel?

Hopefully taking some of the capacity out of the domestic system will be a band-aid, but I still say you'll be paying for a lot more on the legacies before the year is over. Give it time..... they'll all catch up to US.....

all i can say is that the company is looking at EVERYTHING to try to cut cost. so do not be surprised at what they come up with next. we are talking about our survival here . i know it sucks but the whole industry sucks right now. we really have to adapt to it. look at eos and maxjet. they had a lavish service across the pond. but that got them nowhere.

Well the first place they should start is slashing in half the bloated payscales and bonuses for upper management. When that has been done and we are not curtailing our losses, then come and take what few amenities (if you can even call them that) onboard the aircraft.

WA must be doing better. The other day on a KLM Cityhopper flight just over an hour long I had a breakfast snack consisting of two little sandwiches. One with Brie; the other with fresh raspberry jam. No charge for coffee refills, too!

Either that or the tall blonde FA babe was wooed by my northeast American charm...

We tried Allegiant once from ABE to PIE. Their model is to charge for everything, including checked luggage. The only way to get free water is if you're taking medication and need it for your pill. The beverage cart had a lot of snacks for sale, and they even had souvenirs for sale.

I just checked Yahoo Finance, and ALGT reported a flat first quarter profit of $9.7 million.

Allegiant is the only carrier that offers nonstop service from ABE to Florida (PIE, FLL and SFB). The problem is that at some times of the year the ABE to PIE route only operates 2 or 3 times per week. Not all travellers can plan around their infrequent schedule. However, the fact that they had a small first quarter profit shows that their model may be working.
