NO IFE on domestic A/C

If they are taking them off because of weight, then why do we still have ovens in the back of the Airbus? That is the biggest waste of space, although I have found many things in there over the years. Give me a nice counter to make all these $2 drinks and $7 cocktails. The IFE is not going to be that big of a deal with the exception of Caribbean flights. I can hear the complaints there. WN has never had an IFE system and everyone seems to love them so much when they threaten to leave US. Tempe is trying to turn US into WN with every passing day. Next they will get rid of the beverage carts due to the fact they are heavy and our service will go to tray service. I wonder when we will get the sneakers and shorts worked into our new uniform!
Not a bad idea? Maybe the gate agent can sell soda as the passengers board the aircraft :)

Moderator-safe quote, LOL:

Well, I don't know about Cabin Service Directors, I was referring to Coke-Slinging Swoooshbags.

<SNIP> I was on a Southwest flight transcon where the FA's did a trivia game, and they gave away rolls of toliet paper and garbage bags as prizes. You had to ring the overhead bell if you knew the answer. By far more entertaining than the IFE on US.
I would find that terribly annoying, since I like to do some work on my laptop or read when I fly. But you’re right; IFE has always been a loss leader for airlines, so I’m a little surprised Tempe hasn’t done this sooner.

Lord, don't give them any more ideas.

The IFE is a big deal transcon. Or anything over 3 hrs. Not to mention it frees us up from making endless announcements and the demo.

Tempe may try to remake US into a WN but the business model isn't in place nor will it ever be. Making that transition would more than likely put US out of business altogether. We have too much invested in our current business model.

It seems to me that for ever step forward we make...we're taking 3 steps back. Contantly reconfiguring the airbus fleet is outrageously expensive and just seems to be a knee jerk reaction instead of a well thought out plan. Shoot..they haven't even finished painting the east fleet.

It is sad. US today is so different from the airline I was hired by 10 years ago. Slowly it has been changed into a different airline. Whether that is good or bad, it is a fact. I remember not having movies a short time after Sept. 11th when we were in another crisis mode situation. Eventually it came back. If they take the system out all together, then I don't see it coming back anytime soon. I take my dvd player or laptop with me anyway along with a good book when I travel. Most people will begin to do the same if they don't already. I will be curious to see how this all turns out.

It wouldn't be so bad if they would put in seat power in all the airbuses (i.e. West) and take delivery of the new ones with it, too. But we all remember that one of Tempe's first ideas was to disable and remove in-seat power in the East AB fleet. It was actually a good bit of feedback from customers that got them to change their mind, or so that was the story at the time. This is also when we had hope in the new management at the time....

I just spoke to a friend who was formerly employed at US, and he told me that domestic IFE will be discontinued on/about October 1, and the systems will be removed. Only Transatlantic/Hawaii will feature audio/video from there on.

In addition to the weight excuse (not buying it), I think they are just too cheap to pay for the movie rentals. This might be an extension of the plan where they stopped playing movies on redeyes purportedly so people can sleep but really to save the rental fees.

I take my friend's word on good authority, as he is still wired to the inside.

If true, the high cost of CHEAP rears its head yet again.

In the general scheme of things, not a big deal, except that those who are thinking of booking transcons will probably go elsewhere. Another brilliant move.

If it's weight, it might have more to do with the extra seats the new deliveries will have over the current 321's.

Does anyone know what happened to the AVOD tests that were supposed to be conducted at some point this year? I assume with the fuel, this experiment is cxld? Anyone? Etops?

Ok. I've taken my calm pill and found a happy place......

Perhaps it is my resistance to change rearing its ugly head...commuting on SW as much as I do I always think about the poor fools who book them and fly across country with nothing to watch if they didn't bring anything of their own...and I also think how glad I am that I don't work for an airline that has this "lack of service". Now! It's someone switched the drinks and I'm

As for the SW flight attendants playing games...well, come on. You know what our crew members are like. The game will be who ignore the passenger the most? or how many passengers can we make soil there pants today? Bouncy and bubble youthful behavior tends to look great when people are slim and trim. Our crews??!! Dancing hippos, a real circus act...and yes, flight chic, bring back the scales.

If its true, this latest 'change' really blows. I'm really surprised in a bad way. What's next, bring your seat?

I can't believe you actually typed this. I for one have alot of respect for the F/A's and would never refer to them that way, even if they have to sell Cokes. They are already pushing CCs, selling meals and headsets (although headsets not for long).

This comment explains alot about your posts.

I agree with Art. I don't buy the weight issue either.

That would be like me jerking the stereo out of my car to save on gas.

I don't see US being "The Airline of Choice" without the IFE.

Nor am I going to entertain the passengers. That's absurd!
