No Free Coffee on US Airways

Anyone who keeps saying "jsut Raise the fares" doesn't belong on an avaiation web site.
Keeping fares the same, tempe lowered services below others, so, for the same fare, passengers look for services offered. Competitors do not charge for many of the things US does. As a discriminating and cost-conscious passenger, who would you go with, for the same fare, the one offering more or less free services?

and, you may wish to slow your typing, because, obviously, you have exceeded the capacity of your keyboard.

How much is a beer in the concourse in the good old USA's finest airport?

As I recall it started around $6 a couple of years ago.

How much should the Ketel's pay at 35K feet?

Liquor laws and FAR's prevent someone from carrying their $6 beer to the airplane.

At least you can buy a $1.75 16 oz. bottle of Coke at the newsstand and bring it along. And then you don't have to wait 45 minutes for a flight attendant to get to your row to sell you a 12 oz. can of Coke for $2.

So what you're saying is that -no-you can't bring your own liquor on board.

So what should we do now, charge $1.75 for a beer?

You seemed to have missed the specific point.

No, MY point was that you could do better carrying soda on board, but for beer and liquor (even if you could get a can of beer on the concourse for a dollar) the passenger is stuck with the airlines' price.

Of course you didn't miss the reference only to beer.

Since you brought it up, why not buy other drinks at a discount in the terminal?

It only makes sense doesn't it?

It seems (from my vantage point at least) to have worked to our (yours and mine) advantage.

100% bull. Read my post in the thread that is already dealing with this.

Interesting...
My experience today was more in line with the negative feedback. :(

People wanted BOB's-Not enough boarded.
People wanted "just a cup of water".
People seemed unaware and unprepared. Hungry, irritated and nickle and dimed to death,

The galley pack out has changed once again,
Their envelopes for tracking sales are very poorly designed and the no info was provided in base before my trip started.
Once again, we're on our own. No change bank, no advertising (even with a fake positive spin) to our passengers.

I'll continue to offer the best service I can with the tools I am given but I am embarrassed at what this airline has turned into.

So if someone flashes their US Gold Card they'd be comped? I haven't got my US Gold card this year which is funny considering I haven't flown revenue yet...You'd think they're wondering why I'm not even using the ED20s yet?

Hello CO, yeah I'm broke but here's my credit card I need a roundtrip between Houston and DC.

As a flight attendant, just go armed with a wad of ones and fives. You'll be ok. The only stress I see here is making change....end of story.

No, it is up to the cockamie brainiacs to provide a change bank,
and definately not the end of story.

This is just another erosion of the flight attendant position.

Granted, I am old school but I am not out to get a service over with in 10 minutes.
My career has been to tend the safety and comfort of my passengers,
not being a trash collector, cabin cleaner, soft drink concessionaire or banker.

My experience today LAX-CLT:

A few complainers. Not too many takers, mostly waters. The water bottles were sold for $1, not $2, but the cans of soda/juices were sold for $2.

The FA keps repeating "Does anybody care to purchase a beverage today?" as she wheeled her cart down the aisle.

Be careful Tempe don't make you FA's wear T-Shirts that have advertisements on them.

I'm taking a water test kit with me on my next flight and actually see how clean the water is...For Real...
  I got violently ill twice drinking potable water from the airplane. The idots who post are confused with the water you get fro your faucet at home. Just ask ANY mechanic and they wil tell you what those tanks are full of- bacteria, rodent dropping, bugs etc. Bottled water and coffee should be free- plain and simple. I will NEVER fly US again- yes even for free. It's really time for US to cut their losses and close up shop. The airline - once full of pride is no longer viable. I hope and pray SOON somebody buys US and puts the fools in Tempe on the unemployment line.

Which base are you in? I ask because there was support in at least one crew room.

The making of change seems to be of more difficulty for you than the rest of us.

Depending on A/C the level off announcements(either on tape or from written material)delivers the correct prices for both meals and beverages.

No one suggests you get it over in 10 minutes-take as long as necessary(and then do it again).

Besides disliking the amount of BOB ordered, the appearance of simple addition on the liquor form, lack of a bank(other then the one supplied for BOB), people asking for H2O and a general "irritability" of PAX on your flight does not seem to counter that people are willing to pay for inflight beverages-perhaps it wasn't the drinks-we know how old school can be.

Take what a mechanic tells you with a grain of salt. I've been consuming aircraft water for nearly 30 years now and never had an experience of getting sick. I've had some that tasted really bad, but there are a number of factors that could do that...one of which being that the tank had recently been cleaned and improperly flushed.

And don't be too sure that if you brought a bottle of your favorite water to a top-notch lab for testing that you would be any happier with the results than what that mechanic told you.
