No Free Coffee on US Airways

For "Barbell" or anyone above-whoever thought this up deserves a promotion and a raise.

That's how I would run this circus.

Nice job when you try to actually run an airline vs. selling/buying airlines.

Now if you offered meaningful buy-outs you could actually change the culture of this airline.

That's what I would do if I ran this place-since you asked.
Yeah, if perhaps some of the front line employees that no longer criticize Tempe due to the intimidation of the (belly laugh) “ethicsâ€￾ campaign were to leave, there would be a mirror image of the Stepford Stare.

This post goes out to all the hopeless sinners, and pilferers of obsolete galley supplies.

What does the ethics campaign have to do with this thread? We are discussing how the new procedure is going for front line employees. Stick to the topic and it has NOTHING to do with the ethics campaign.

OH my Gosh! I never thought the Stepford Wife syndrome would affect the EAST fa's!!!?
We are brainwashed now to think this is a really good idea, aren't we???????
I don't think this is going so bad. I am happy to read the postive posts for once. I am sure the other majors are just down to weeks or month on implementing this program! A lot more money coming in for US Airways, I am amazed!! :)
Now can US fa's have a RAISE, oh please, DOUGIE?!! :glare:

Worked a west coast redeye. We took in about $350 going and $200 coming back. Heard some grumbling about having to pay for drinks and one PAX said he would be writing the company. I did help him find the address in the magazine. Other than feeling a bit embarrassed about having to sell these items it went smoothly. It is just like every other time we have made changes. I remember feeling the same way when we started BOB's.

America West Airlines started BOB back in 2001, amazing we are US Airways now, but still HP in drag!!!

I'm not surprised that US Airways passengers don't mind paying $2 for an in-flight soft drink. US has chased away the business passengers in favor of the ghetto crowd.

Next up -- removing First Class cabins. After all, if US doesn't want to "give away" in-flight soft drinks, why should they "give away" First Class seats? ("give away" is in quotes because you don't "give" something to customers who pay money to be on the plane, but that's how the company views it)

Gee JS, don't give them any ideas. I do believe there is a lot to what you are saying.

Does anyone know how Coca-Cola's contract works with US Airways? Handing out complimentary soda's is one thing, charging $2.00 a can seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen if Coca-Cola isn't profiting from this decision somehow.

They made an announcement at the gate yesterday, prior to boarding my flight back to LAX. They did not make an announcement prior to boarding my outbound flight to CLT on 8/1. My guess is that they received feedback from the FA's that pax were unaware, confused, etc.

I think that the announcement is a good thing. This also enables pax who intend to purchase beverages to have their wallets handy in their under-the-seat carry-ons.

Honestly.....I am less opposed to the concept of selling beverages than I am to the lack of information which US provides to its customers at the time they book their flights. ALL ancillary fees should be disclosed upfront during the ticket purchase process (and not in fine print), so that consumers can make informed decisions. As long as people know what they are buying, it is their choice whether or not to make the purchase......or choose an airline with a slightly higher ticket price, but more inclusive of the services which they will actually be using.

This is especially important now, since there is no consistency among the airlines as to what is or is not included in your ticket purchase. It is a total crapshoot for the uninformed traveler, and this is where most of the passenger ire comes from.

I didn't work in the back on my last trip but it didn't seem like a very big deal selling drinks. One flight attendant I flew with made the Cash Cow announcement after the beverage sales announcement and then walked through with the credit card applications and asked for beverage orders at the same time. People didn't seem to want a drink then! He passed out so many credit card applications yet didn't sell very many drinks. I thought that was hilarious. Maybe I should start doing Cash Cow and try that! hehehe

As for the news saying all pax have to do is yell at us and they will get a free beverage, that won't happen if they complain to me. I do NOT reward bad behavior. If someone is frustrated and tells me what they have been through with delays or cancellations, rude airline employees, etc. but they aren't jerks about it then I will gladly comp a drink and do what I can to improve the situation. When people are really nice and help me out by moving for a family or to an exit row if there are children or disabled people sitting there or whatever, then I will comp them a drink and thank them profusely. But when people lash out on me and are real jerks about it and cause a scene then no, they aren't getting anything from me but the hand! The other day, about 5 people had yelled at me about the new baggage fee, about no room in the overhead directly above their seat for their rollerboard, about not being seated with their friends or family even though they chose their seats when they booked, and countless other things, I was so over it. Then all of a sudden, someone started yelling at me (yes, they raised their voice at me!) about the new baggage fee and this guy was such a jerk and wouldn't shut up and was causing such a scene that instead of walking off and not paying him any attention that was the last straw and so I decided to lecture him and I calmly gave him a really long lecture about the new baggage fee and that we aren't the only airline doing it and I explained the fuel situation and went on and on about how I am just a lowly reserve who nobody in this company respects, including fellow flight attendants because I am so junior that they think I am subhuman and that I have absolutely no control over the baggage fee situation or anything else that management does and that everytime I submit an idea they don't listen to me and I just went on and on about this and that and the other and didn't let him get a word in edgewise. I wasn't rude about it, I was just passionately rambling. I tried to defend the company except for the reserve juniority thing and the not listening to my ideas part. Oh and I put in some sappy stuff too about how I am just trying to make a living while working part time hours and going to school for a better future and blah blah blah. hehehe He didn't say another word to me after that. Mind you this was the 4th day of a very bad four day and I was sooooo over it.

I guess I'll be experiencing the drink sales and complaining this week. I hope nobody gets too mad about it. I would hate to have to lecture more people. hehehe
