New International Service

Supposedly AA to make another announcement on Friday.

Regarding a new international destination? I'm interested in hearing what it will be.

I know San Luis Potosi, Mexico is supposed to be launched by year's end, daily ERJ from Dallas.

Also, I also heard (not sure if this is true) that AA's request to serve O'Hare-Nagoya was rejected by Japanese aviation authorities.

I had not heard that the Nagoya service was rejected, that must be new news. Also rumored are...DFW-Veracruz, Chihuahua, and San Juan-Viaquez sp? Also, BOS-YUL, and BOS-BUF

Dallas-Chihuahua was supposed to have already started this month, but was put on hold.

San Juan-Vieques has been talked about a lot lately, especially now that the airport is up to better standards. It would be nice to see AA add another domestic route in Puerto Rico.

BOS-BUF makes a lot of sense given US Airways troubles.

They can take TXL -- it's a dog with fleas. When we operated it in the early 90's, it barely pulled a 50% LF out of Chicago... Don't know how DL plans to make it work, but they pulled out of JFK-TXL a long time ago for the same reason.

Some of the other destinations CO announved have more meat on the bones, though, as far as tourism and business traffic go.

Another minor correction, AA has about 30 ETOPS equippped 757's plus 15 or so ex-TWA 757's that are also ETOPS equipped but are PW powered and currently not covered under an ETOP's program.

I show 20 of the Rolls 75R's, and 19 PW 75R's. All 143 of the 757s are overwater equipped, so upgrading a few more shells to ER status may not be more than installing VHF 8.33 radios and getting the paperwork in order.

Two new routes were annouced at the management conference last week, but the final decisions hadn't been made on when we'd start these up. Plus, we're all waiting to see the outcome of ORD-PVG...

Any idea on a time frame for the news?

My guess is that if there is anything to announce, that we'll see it come out on Wednesday when 3Q "earnings" are announced.

Does anybody know when the timeframe is (more or less) for this decision?
Thanks,

I'd like to see JFK-BRU and JFK-FCO made year round, in addition to adding JFK-GVA and JFK-MXP.

Even worse about the new JFK terminal - I read a report that it will only contain 39 gates instead of the original design for 56.

IIRC 39 mainline gates were the original plan, the reduction in gates was from Eagle.

In response to my earlier statement about the exact number of ETOP'S EQUIPPED 757's in the AA fleet, I did some research, and I was a bit suprised, if not inconclusive. It turns out there are indeed 20 ETOP's certified (different than EQIUPPED)757's in the AA fleet. It turns out there were some 757's that were modified to ETOP's standard that I did not know about. Also there many 757's in the fleet that I am sure were delivered to AA with ETOP's eqipment that are not in the aforementioned list. I could swear the last batch of 23 757's (5ET-5FT) were built to ETOP'S standard. I can't yet confirm this. Just because an A/C is built to ETOP's standard does not mean that it is designated as an ETOP's A/C. If this is indeed the case, that means there are more than 30 ETOP's A/C in the AA fleet, and all it takes as the previous poster mentioned is Quality assurance paperwork and European radios to fly to Europe. On the subject, anyone know why AA does not fly to Ireland( EIRE )? I know there is some regulation that requires a stopover in Shannon, but this does not stop Aer Lingus or DAL. If AA were to fly this route from BOS or JFK it would be a money maker, year around, with 757's of course.

Perhaps it's because we have a codeshare with oneworld partner Aer Lingus...
