New Fa Uniforms

Casual IMO for Europe is out. Europeans do dress more formally and the type of service offered is more reserved.

I actually like the current uniform. At least when the F/A's manage to actually wear the full uniform. Which is 85% of the time.

That being said I think it's time for a change. Let's take a minute and think from a Marketing perspective. "The Worlds Largest Low Fare Carrier" On the surface that would seem to indicate a more casual and relaxed dress. But what do the differeniators with SWA tell us?

Traditional Frequent Flyer Program
Star Alliance and associated world wide reach
International destinations including Carribean
Meals on flights

These items cry out for a traditional and somewhat formal uniform IMO. Since it appears the the new US is trying to position itself as a hybrid then you can easily argue that the above amenities offered are consistent with a traditional airline with a traditional dress code.

The look and "Feel" of the new US Airways will be critical in the marketplace. I would suggest that you look toward the European carriers for inspiration as opposed to the discounters for the proper image for US Airways front line staff to present to it's customers. Some of the international carriers uniforms are absolutlely fashion statements.

Also consider the new uniform as a potential morale builder. Studies show that when you dress well you act differently. Professional attire = Professional conduct.

Please no jokes about "Senior Mama's" and bolts of fabric not being wide enough for "designer" uniforms.

I agree 100%!

We should definitley remain more traditional in our dress....the current uniform is nothing great, but when worn properly (cleaned, sized right, ties/tabs, etc...) we do look pretty good.

Polo Shirts and Tennis Shoes for Domestic. International can keep the current look.

Casual no, classy yes. The new US Airways needs to distinguish itself as a "classier" alternative to the other discount carriers. Tommy Bahama ain't going to cut it on International.

i think it should be a choice. like song does. if you want to be dressy then they have a jacket with a shirt and tie. if you want to be casual you can wear pants with a polo shirt and no tie. they also have a vest for guys that can be worn with a tie and no jacket.
ladies can wear a casual dress with a scarf or no scarf (your choice) or flat front pants with a nice shirt and a scarf around the neck. but no shorts and sneakers. we are not in a band camp. ties for men, should be optional .

I would wear ANYTHING designed by Kate Spade...she designed the Song uni's, didn't she?

I was told that Jet blue's uniforms were Prada. Any one can confirm this? They look sharp. Real nice.

pure b/s. i fly jetblue alot. they laugh when i tell them what people say about who made their unifirms. they are like ,"we wish prada made our uniforms". they are like , "we are a low cost carrier, you think jetblue is gonna spend money on prada uniforms?"

Although I agree that the uniform can still look good if it's maintained and fitted properly, I understand why we take the tabs and ties off sometimes. Some more than others have made the "no tab/tie" part of their daily dress at work. I think it originally started as a "Piss off" attitude towards mgmt. and supervisors that would come to the a/c and do appearance checks. With all that has happened, I would love to see a supervisor come onto the a/c and tell all to put their tabs/ties on. They would be eaten alive. Although we all agree to adhere to the uniform policies I don't think much has been adhered to around here at US. When the a/c is as hot as hell on the ground and does not cool off until halfway through flight "the 737" the tie comes off. I don't care if the president is on that plane. I'm not gonna sweat in my shirt to the point you could ring it out just to look "professional". PLEASE no sneakers. I don't wanna be another southwest. It works for them but the new company as a whole will be different. I don't want to look as if I'm off to a picnic. Envoy to Europe needs something with style but not old school stuffy. What that should be is hard to say.

I just spoke to my supervisor and they were informed that the f/a's would be getting new uniforms in the future. The good news is that the f/a's will get to choose from prototypes selected from the f/a group, which will be worn by f/as on the line. The f/a's will decide. Now that's a switch.

My vote? While SWA is more of a Gap look, I would like to see us go with a dressy/casual Bananna Republic look that could have a shirt/tie added for the guys for intl and shirt/scarf for the women.

Any thoughts?

It will be interesting to see exactly what happens. I was told by a supervisor, No new uniforms. Men will get new ties and the women will get scarf options. We will also get new wings with our names (yes names) on them. I personally hope for new uniforms for all groups. but I guess we will find out soon enough. :)

Kate Spade? Prada? ROTFLMAO.........you will be lucky to see uniform pieces by Jaclyn Smith or Martha Stewart!

Piney I guess you haven't seen some of the ITD Fa's in the Aviator Shirt. I can't believe that there isn't a FEMALE Shirt instead of the stupid Aviator Shirt. It looks fine on the guys, but the famales come one. The Current Uniform is a Disgrace and it needs to be retired with the OLD U. The stripped shirt was nice along with the Tan blouse. Bring something back like that. Someone several weeks ago had the new Delta uniform posted on here and the mens Uniform looked AWESOME. The Navy needs to go away that is for sure. Rumor has it that the Navy just celebrated its 20th Anniversary this year. The longiest Uniform color out there by ANY airline. Let the Females look like females and give them a Female outfit, not male pants and male shirts and call it a Female Uniform. The tie should be optional for the males since most aren't wearing it now. The guys do look nice without it. As far as the ITD flights yes the Europeans do dress nice, but when they come on the plane they are very casual. Just came back from Europe yesterday and most had button down shirts with NO tie. That is a very casual look and it looks nice. If you want a nice uniform let someone design it who knows things about clothes versues a uniform company. God knows they can't even get the same sizing in their clothes.

Doug has often stated that both airlines are made up of "professionals". Many foriegners envy our happy go lucky lifestyles (just look at how popular jeans became overseas) so I wouldn't be surprised if we have a little "Americana" displayed as well. My guess is it won't be to dressy or stuffy, but will maintain a professional look. From what I've heard, F/As will be allowed to participate in the decision making process with those guidelines. Great move by the management team if this is true. Employee empowerment will only make our new US Airways stronger.

This "European is more formal" thing is such BS. Having worked most of the transatlantic flights we have, Business Class of both Americans and Europeans is VERY, VERY casual. I don't know where these gals are flying, but most of our biz class passengers look like they stepped out of a trailor park. And econony is even worst. Yeah, you may get an occassionally dressed up bizperson, but they are the exception.

You hear alot of this crap from some of the f/a's that are America haters...those that never have a postive thing to say about America and spend their waking moments complaining about the Americans on the entire flight.

I have also walked through the same European Airports and the only dressed up people ARE the airline employee. Believe me, they are no different. Our uni sux, but when I do my job professionallly and shake the customers hand at the end and say "thank you", they don't give a rat's ass what you're dressed in...except for maybe PineyBob.(hehe)

Give the more formal European thing to rest already and dressed comfortably. ;)

Lane Bryant may be a good possiblity though

sorry couldn't resist

1stamendment: i don't necessarily think that you should dress down to your customers; i keep on a suit even though the vast majority of my clients don't wear suits. i'm not saying that suits and ties are necessary, but i am not a fan of sneakers and polos.

Just add a nice polo shirt. Same shoes, pants, etc. If they think International needs ties, maybe make that an exception. But you don't know hot until you routinely work PHX/LAS in the summer.
