forget about new A & Ps entering the industry with all thats going on. A & P schools are closing nationwide,

I have been hearing that for 15 years. It never pans out. What usually happens is an airline folds and floods the market with more AMTs than before. There will never be a shortage. Here in MIA you got guys working across the street for 10 dollars an hour with no tickets and some fool sighning off their work. I see Delta aircraft there DHL and the hangar is all ways full.
There will all ways be some one willing to work no matter what the pay is just look at the majority in Tulsa. No Offense guys :p

You are correct about people willing to work for any wage and the majority of AA employees in Tulsa.
A lot of people take the job "just for the flight benefits" and this alone kills any chances of improving wages and benefits for AMT's.Besides ,the so called flight benefits are getting almost useless[from TUL] because of the load factors and too many employees competing for too few seats.

I'm scratchin' my head here. If the TWU is such poor representation - and I only say that based on what I read about them on these forums, then why hasn't the membership disbanded them? Why isn't the membership actively seeking alternate representation? If another union steps in with 51% approval, they should be able to force a vote to see if the majority wish to dump their current representation and give someone new a try.

Unless there is something in that contract that I don't know about or understand. But from what I read here, it's very hard to love your job, enjoy what you do when you are constantly worried about when your job's representatives will paint another target on your backs.

Are TWU members allowed to actively seek alternate representation?

NO, they were denied a vote by a collaboration of the NMB,EVIL TWU-AA. This was accomplished by padding the eligible voting list with DEAD PEOPLE, RETIRED PEOPLE, PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN FIRED FROM AA-TWA, PEOPLE WHO HAD REFUSED RECALL FROM LAYOFF, PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN OUTSOURCED BY THE TWU-AA NEVER TO RETURN, and by DELUTING THE MECHANIC+RELATED CLASS WITH FLEET SERVICE CLERKS DOING PUSH BACKS,CHECKING ENGINE OIL(For example: according to the TWU-AA, NMB there is nobody in MIA to throw bags!)

Aye, there's the rub...........as long as the FAA allows unlicensed, untrained, inexperienced, illiterate, non English-speaking and unskilled persons to work on airplanes, there will always be an unlimited supply of cheap labor to undercut our wages in the marketplace.

It's supply and demand again.

Sh*tcanning the twu has been ongoing actively since 1998 and resulted in the filing of 9274 good cards last year for a group reported by the twu, AA, and the NMB as 16,000 2 years earlier during the merger. The NMB was forced to investigate for a potential election. AA joined hands with the twu and pulled out every last stop to have the election denied. They put on the eligibility list to the NMB, dead people, retirees, never worked for AA, terminated years ago, refused recall, probationary guys who were terminated, fuelers at stations we never had fueling, cabin cleaners who nevered cleaned a plane, etc, etc, etc.
Election Archive
You see, AA does not want their puppet to leave, so they spent an incredible amount of money on legal fees to stop the election, all the while saying that we are changing our ways and listen to our employees. They continue to be the corporate tyrants that have always been and this just proves it some more.

We will continue to collect cards now that the company has thrown all they can at us and inflated the mechanic ranks to 18,601 despite 1/3 of that number are not living or on the property. We will be filing again for an election this fall and the twu will be gone soon after.

Can anyone find a link to USair's AFL-CIO IAM mechanic contract? I am working on something for AAmech and his signature, after all I am sure he would like to know the truth. Perhaps I can even get it published for him!!! We'll see, keep your fingers crossed AAmech!

Believing what's said around here as 100% fact is sort of like believing that Rush Limbaugh's opinions are representative of what all Americans believe.

lol Have to agree with you FM. There is not much truth left in men of this world, not just Rush, he is just no different. All we can do is try and make things righteous before the game is over. Never cower and never quit!!!

Thanks AMFAMAN.

I'm not covered by the CBA, so it really doesn't matter to me.

Then why do you care what labor does or does not do?

If the company goes out of business because of a strike, so be it; at least we won't continually destroy the standard of living for other AMT's.

I doubt the families of the unemployed mechanics would see it the way you do.

You are wrong. If the company folded they could collect unemployment while looking for their next job, which most are doing already.

We have plenty of EAL guys who did it once before and would not hesitate to do it again.

Here at JFK we are already seeing guys with plenty of years quitting, not getting laid off or fired, but quitting. Believe it or not most would rather see the company fold before walking away from years of service. You obviously have no idea of what seniority means to people who work 24x7x365. The company is losing its best, most agressive employees first.

If the company folded then SWA and other airlines would need more mechanics so if we believe that company that the old rates and benifits will never be restored at AA then over the long term wouldnt we be better off to shut it down so SWA could expand?
