Anyone out there have any stats on the EMBs as to maintenance problems?
My experience with them is that they are junk! Lately there have been alot of maintenance delays and cancellations involving these paper airplanes. Breakdowns, ship changes and cancellations seem to be the norm. We didn't get the bugs worked out of the first few we bought and they still keep buying more. They have even ship changed a few that I know from experience to 737-300s. We are going down the tubes if the company puts all of its eggs in this basket which looks to be the way they seem to be going. Good luck to us all!

if it ain't Boeing you're probably not going......

seriously, we on the ERJ just received EICAS revision eighteen!!! and we've only had these planes 48 months!

What choice do they have? It'll cost an insane amount to stop the order. That was a horrid thing when Wolf did it, and it'd be a horrid thing if it were done again.

I know that "teething problems" occur with every new type. Someone on another thread pointed out that Amtrak intially had problems with their Accelas (which are now giving us some heavy competition on the LGA-DCA shuttle). I am curious to know how we are doing with the EMB-170 compared to out Star Alliance partner, LOT. (I think they are only other operator right now.) Initial teething problems or not, the reliability is quite disappointing.

Some of the problems are of our own making, such a lack or preparedness. Recently, at a "Focus City" location, an ERJ-170 had to be moved off a gate to make room for another flight. It turned out there was no one in the station (fleet svc or mtc) who was checked off on riding brakes on the beast! I am not talking about taxiing, just a tow. Just one of several items that slipped through the cracks, even though we had known for many weeks when the plane would be coming to that city.

Oh, and be careful not know jam an overstuffed carry-on bag into the overhead bin. This can cause the top of the bin to jam into the ceiling lights and shatter them. Showering the customer doing the jamming with sharp pieces of plastic.

On the positive side, it has a very comfortable cabin. Seats 1DF have amazing leg room.

No, I meant the ERJ, the -145....you guys have the E170. Cockpit layout wise they're very similar, and programming done Brizillian-style.

Sorry for the confusion.

What a load of crap,

I suppose you have some hard facts to back up your statement...? Hard figures of cancellation rates and completion factors? Mnx cost summaries, no...?

Oh, you just have your opinion, ahhh, well.

1. Load 13.3 for the Honeywell software has been implimented, This has already addressed many of the issues that were causing problems for the MDA EMB-170's Most of the problems with the aircraft were related this.

2. The addition of spares has also greatly increased the ability of MDA to maintain a stable operation. With the few avail EMN-170's in the beginning this was not possible. The fleet plan will not always allow a spare (like mainline always has), but the increase in aircraft umbers will automatically lessen the impact of one aircraft having a MNX issue

3. Operational changes and training have continued to improve over time AS WE LEARN THE AIRCRAFT, which afterall NO ONE had experience on before us.

Fact is, you have clue what you are talking about, other than your limited experience with the aircraft and operation do you...?

So give it a rest, being mad at your situation is no excuse to bad mouth MDA or the aircraft we fly. Grow up please.

Rico, Rico, Rico Dude take a chill pill!!!!!!!!!!! If you read the first line I said........

Anyone out there have any stats on the EMBs as to maintenance problems?

And yes I am expressing my opinion. I think that is what this forum is for.

Last week on my schedule alone, I had 2 cancellations and 3 ship changes, one of the ship changes to a 737-300, and 2 big inbound delays because of maintenance. That is on two gates.

Thankyou for your facts. That is what I asked for. Once again Chill out dude! You got some serious issues to deal with.

P.S.- They are still junk!!!!!!!!! Have a nice day ;)

Sorry I do not have all the Stats, but in our Station, we had 14 Scheduled EMB-170 flight last week, of which only 8 operated. That is a 57% Completion Factor, and that RICO, is FACT.

I guess with our current frustrations nobody remembers when we introduced the Airbus? How long it took to certify the A321 (we almost didn't get it done)? Our issues with the F100's and how long it took us to learn that a/c which ended up being fairly reliable in the end? It's not the a/c itself - I worked with a f/a who helped introduce the DC-9 and they had those problems - all the way back at the first Allegheny!

But SKYGUY the E70 we have in our city are either majorly delayed or cancel. We cannot keep passengers when these planes are so unreliable.Years back we had hourly service from EWR to BOS. But the flights were constantly xld.For some strange reason we droped out of the market.

Oh I will chill just fine, I just get bent at people dissing my aircraft and the MDA operation. If people would look at what we are doing in an unbiased light, they might appreciate MDA rather than insult it.

Yeah, there are growing pains without a doubt, but for everyone of the bad points you people have to realize how hard we are working to make it the best as it can possibly be.

It just seems like MDA is saddled with being a focal point of animosity over the changes going on at US, rather than being welcomed as something that might help the remainder of US survive.

I appreciate the support some have shown, but I will come after anyone that bad mouths MDA in the same vein as you would were I to talk down your workplace.

It IS just a plane,. and we are just fellow US employees, but US is now on the leading edge of something and I for one plan to do what I can to see it succeed.

Is it not about time to feel positive about something around here for a change...?

Since when did you buy them for US Airways?

And the unreliablity of the plane speaks for itself.

Rico you are unreal! You say............."If people would look at what we are doing in an unbiased light, they might appreciate MDA rather than insult it."

Lets see, on a weekly basis the company is taking mainline flights and moving them to MidAtlantic. As the mainline shrinks MidAtlantic grows. You might say that MidAtlantic is mainline but why do all the aircraft have Express on them. I'll tell you why, because the end result will be that MidAtlantic will eventually become Express flights, not mainline resulting in the loss of mainline jobs and the creation of low paid express jobs. And you want people to look at that in an unbiased light?

I don't appreciate MDA in the way it is being created. If the company would keep these in the mainline stable we might be able to appreciate MDA rather than insult it.

As far as I'm concerned you can take back your aircraft to Brazil!!!

Hasta La Vista!
