Mesa Eyeballing Express And Shuttle..

And here the much discussed "UCT" comes to light. :p

Seriously, Mesa operating the Shuttle under codeshare with US might not be a bad idea. The Shuttle market will never go back to what it was ... Amtrak is just too damn convenient (and this from someone who flies DCA-PHL every so often).

Big meeting tomorrow in PIT with managers and union leaders at both ALG and PDT with Bruce Ashby, President USAirways Express!

Could be a telling day tomorrow.

In my opinion, US Airways will sell at least its PSA RJ operation and CRJ-200/700 delivery positions to Mesa for about $100 million. Then US Airways and Mesa will code share the operation and the deal would comply with J4J.

In regard to Piedmont and Allegheny, the companies are being downsized and management wants a minimum size turboprop operation to serve airports that cannot support a RJ. Thus, I believe these two companies may be merged with a competitive cost structure or one or both could be liquidated.

I had the same thought... As long as it is not a pay per departure situation.

I fail to see the logic in selling RJ's and then paying Mesa a guaranteed PROFIT to operate the flight. Yes, it would be an immediate cash influx, but over the long term, the guaranteed PROFIT to Mesa is an added expense to US Airways... Not exactly a cost-minimizing solution... In fact this would increase CASM, not decrease it.

The only way this works long term is if Mesa's costs + their guaranteed PROFIT margin on a particular flight is less than the total cost of a WO to operate the same flight. Not sure if that would be the case or not.

Kev-

Any more box wine and I'm going to sing karaoke with your avatar...

"Islands in the stream, that is what we are....no one in between, how can we be wrong..."

Great tune. :)

This is all well and fine until Mesa decides to go it alone as ACA is doing.
Then US will be caught with their pants down and no quick way to fill the void.
The less that Mesa has to do with the operation, the better. Letting them gain control with most of the Express flying is not a wise move...

Islands in the stream...dadadadada....where can we go wrong...dadadadada....great tune. will put me to sleep tonight. Love Ya

With my Boones Farm, Ramen Noodles and "islands in the stream" soaring though my head....I shall sleep well tonight. Wondering how Dave is sleeping????? ;)

Sure seems like to me that Mesa is chomping at the bit to expand, no matter what the cost. This should raise some red flags somewhere. Mesa has had its financial trouble before and they almost went away. Regardless, I would not call Mesa a "Friend" to US or the WHO's. Something fishy here. Unfortunately this is the way business is done in America!
