US1YFARE, it's good to understand you are a loyal customer. However, reading recent notes I wouldn't have come to that conclusion. Just being honest.

OK. Look at his response. Customer is always greedy.

I want to know what and to who US1 is loyal? I keep hearing how USAir's employees are tops in US1's book. But in the now long term battle of 28,000 and shrinking employees against their proven inept managers US1 won't condone a little short term inconvenience. What are you saying to your precious cp desk employees? Suck it up a little longer folks for ME ME ME ME!!!!!

TRANSLATION: I like it when a desperate carrier like USAir kisses my a$$. Besides if USAir is replaced I may have to connect.

A lot of us have to connect to fly US in many cases where we would not if we would just take any carrier. We do it because we like dealing with the US employees.

Checking keys is about as dumb a thing as I can imagine. Flying through PHL is up there, however.

I'm saying, gosh, I hate flying out of PHL--those people are miserable and lazy. And then I ask them for an upgrade on a $29 fare and demand that the vodka is chilled before I board the plane. And, please, get rid of those Lay's potato chips--Cape Cod's were much better.

Think whatever you want. For people like me who fly a lot, the miles aren't the end all be all. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to give them up and would be disappointed if they disappeared and would have to reassess who gets my business. They are nice to go to Carib, Europe in Envoy or Asia in FC, but domestically not really worth it because fares are so low and it is worth more to earn status points than free ticket on an already cheap fare. People who think their miles are so important are people who don't fly that often and get excited that they have earned a free ticket.

You get to know the frontline people when you travel a lot. They get to know you. They see you in the councourse and say hi, they ask about your kids, you ask them about their kids, on and on and on. So, when you see that they are fighting for their livelihood and want to keep their job, the least you can do is continue to buy tickets to help out since they have given you such good service over the years. That's it. That is what good customers and good customer service are all about.

Very well put. Im glad you responded. Yea, I would hate to lose my miles but it wouldnt be a big deal. When US and UA were both in Ch11 in late 2002 and early 2003 I had about a million miles in my account between the two. I used those up on some nice vacations and dont carry those kind of balances anymore. There are people trying to figure out how to protect 10,000 miles or something. They arent frequent customers. With various bonuses and promos I generate in the vacinity of half a million new miles per year. If I cared that much about all of them I wouldnt be flying US. I would be exclusively on AA or someone else. I continue to fly US because I feel some loyalty to the employees and the company and I like the way Im treated there. And probably in that order. When you fly as much as some of us do, out of cities like NY, if you are flying US you arent doing it because you dont have other options. And you arent doing it because other people wont treat you well. You are doing it because you have what you view as a positive relation with the company, and that means the people who work there.
