I'm sorry. They knew about his criminal behavior back in 2005 and just told him to stop? He is a sexual preditor for god akes. They don't just stop if you ask nicely. Foley is not the only one who should be canned. Alexander and the clerk along with a few other should be facing criminal complaints. I guess they took lesson from the catholic church.

The lawmaker who oversees the page program, Rep. John Shimkus, a Republican from Illinois, said that he learned about Foley's e-mails in late 2005 and "took immediate action to investigate the matter."

He was notified by Rep. Rodney Alexander, a Republican from Louisiana, in whose office the page had worked. Alexander forwarded the e-mails to the clerk of the House.

"We ordered Congressman Foley to cease all contact with this former House page to avoid even the appearance of impropriety," Shimkus said in a statement Friday.

"It has become clear to me today, based on information I only now have learned, that Congressman Foley was not honest about his conduct."

Don't mention all the so called immoral things that happened in the "other" party.

Lets not play favorites here, be like Fox, balanced.

Trouble is, there is no balance in this world, it's slanted and depending on your allegiance it's tilt varies.

You guys are pathetic. The Republican speaker of the house knew that this guy was a child predator who was targeting under-aged boys and he did nothing about it. At least when a Democrat was involved in a sexual liaison with an underling it was a consensual encounter with an adult.

So are you saying that the dems are a pillar of virtue and have a secured parking space in heaven, or are you saying it's neither the GOP or Dems but the unsaved depraved ungenerated individuals? Which is: (EVERYONE WHO WAS BORN IN THE NATURAL) Are you perfect? Can your feet be held to the fire without pain? Or are you finger pointing trying to divert your own (NATURAL) depravity from yourself and everyone else? Like the fox guarding the chicken pen your reasoning is as sound.

Moral high ground my ass. The sick thing here is that it is pretty clear the GOP leadership hid this to protect a preciouse seat.

Unfortunately there is probably a list out there with Dems who have done the same things. It does seem that power corrupts.

Be that as it may, I am surprised that not much of a stink has been made of the fact that his behavior if not known, was at least suspect but senior members of the republican party. The fact that they did little to nothing to investigate Fowler and let his behavior continue is in my mine criminal.

I know one can play ‘what if’ games all day long, but considering that the media is always accused of being ‘liberal’ I cannot help but wonder why this is not being blared form roof tops. Clinton get s blow job in the oval office and the world come to stand still, Fowler is a sexual predator to a minor and life goes on as usual. This is sex, politics and possible conspiracy. That makes great head lines or so I thought.

So much for NOT ENGAGING my posts.

Is your conscience bothering you? Do you have a “personal†problem with me? Or do your past transgressions haunt you like this topic obviously does to the people who say: Oh look at him, what a sinner he, is instead at looking inward.

Humans Are Sinners

With the exception of Jesus Christ, every human that has ever existed was, or is, a sinner. The very best Christians are all still sinners because they are all still very much human. Claiming to be without sin is itself a sin!

"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us." (1 John 1:8-10 RSV)

The apostle Paul was one of the greatest Christians that has ever lived, a man who actually wrote much of the New Testament, and yet at the same time, he honestly and openly admitted that he, like all humans, was a sinner:

"We know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin. I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:14-25 RSV)

Repent and Be Forgiven

Paul however was forgiven for his human weakness that caused him to sin. He was sorry, he repented, and was forgiven. There is no limit to God's forgiveness for the repentant.

"Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him; and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, and says, 'I repent,' you must forgive him." (Luke 17:3-4 RSV)

"The Lord is not slow about His promise as some count slowness, but is forbearing toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." (2 Peter 3:9 RSV)

"But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember then from what you have fallen, repent and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent." (Revelation 2:4-5 RSV)

Not A Christian Without The Holy Spirit

Humans can only become true Christians by means of the Holy Spirit of God, the spiritual light that makes genuine repentance and correct understanding possible.

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Any one who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him." (Romans 8:5-9 RSV)

Those Who Know Better Must Then Do Better

"The night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires." (Romans 13:12-14 RSV)

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in The Name of The Lord Jesus Christ and in The Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 RSV)

The Lake Of Fire - Defiant Sinners

On the other hand, true Christians who sin deliberately, not out of human ignorance or weakness, but knowingly and defiantly, with a conscious refusal to repent afterward, are another matter. They are rejecting the sacrifice that the Savior made for them, and God's offer of eternal life. Such people, by their own choice of behavior, are sentencing themselves to the lake of fire.

"if they then commit apostasy, since they crucify the Son of God on their own account and hold him up to contempt ... is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned." (Hebrews 6:6,8 RSV)

"For if we sin deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries. A man who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy at the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the man who has spurned the Son of God, and profaned the blood of the covenant by which He was sanctified, and outraged The Spirit of grace?" (Hebrews 10:26-29 RSV)

"For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog turns back to his own vomit, and the sow is washed only to wallow in the mire." (2 Peter 2:20-22 RSV)

The Lake of Fire - Blasphemers Of The Holy Spirit

Some, if not all, of the Pharisees knew that Jesus was of God (John 3:1-2), that the Holy Spirit of God was in Him, and yet there were those among them that wickedly accused The Savior of having a demon - they knowingly blasphemed God's Holy Spirit.

"Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do, unless God is with Him." (John 3:1-2 RSV)

But, despite knowing that Jesus was of God, they told the people that He was of the devil:
"And all the people were amazed, and said, "Can this be the Son of David?" But when the Pharisees heard it they said, "It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons" (Matthew 12:23-24 RSV)

Their condemnation was their own doing -

"Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. (Matthew 12:31-32 RSV)

Rep. Jim Bates (D-Calif.) 1988

Rep. Donald "Buz" Lukens (R-Ohio) 1989 (Minor involved)

Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii) 1992

Sen. Bob Packwood (R-Ore.) 1992

Rep. Mel Reynolds (D-Ill.) 1994 (minor involved)

The ones where minors were involved are the major ones. The others were harassment. While bad, there are not as sick at preying on minors. The rest of the ones in the list seemed to involve consenting adults and do not concern me whether they be Rep or Dem.

With out know the details of the cases it is difficult to comment. The glaring difference I see here is that by most accounts, Rep leadership were advised in 2005 that there was a concern involving minor and did nothing. If that is the case, heads should roll. It is inexcusable to have knowlede like that and to do nothing.

A sin is a sin. Degrees of sin there is not. As I stated above the worst of sins is posted above. Man trying to play moral referee is what we have here, another sin. Want a reference?

Gee-- Duh, maybe we need something most are missing and can be found in the most published book in history.

In the Huffington Post:
A lurid political scandal surrounding a former Representative's inappropriate messages to underage Congressional pages has put the House Republican leadership in peril. Former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) resigned Friday after e-mails and instant messages he sent to Congressional pages, some as young as 16, were made public. Top Republicans, including Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) and majority leader John Boehner (R-OH), knew about the e-mails for months, yet said nothing. NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds may have contributed to Foley's reelection campaign after finding out about the e-mails.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (D-NV) raised the "possibility that Republican leaders in the House of Representatives knew there was a problem and ignored it to preserve a congressional seat this election year." Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) said, "It's outrageous...it really makes me nervous that they might have tried to cover this up."
