You can bump to the line from heavy, if you are not trained on a particular airplane, you have to go to school on it first before you can sign it off, this is the case with the A320 Family.

When a mechanic first comes to the line he/she have to go to line training in PIT or CLT before they actually report to work.

The contract does not say that.

I know numerous utility that have not been mechanics in over 4 years who bid and got mechanics jobs in the past few weeks.

Contract states:
Mechanic:  Valid A&P Licenses.  Article 9, Paragraph I, page 45 Lines 30-33, and that has not changed.

I think the key word here would be valid? If the person didn't meet the current FAA recent experience requirement would it be up to that person to disqualify himself?

The great IAM say" they can bump, and 90% of the time they are bumping a competent mechanic ends up on the street becuse the contract lets them do it.
