Hmm. A loss. Go figure.

And, it's largely because they bet the wrong way on fuel hedges. And $27 million in merger related expenses.

I'd be worried about the latter. $27 million, and they still don't have a single combined labor contract or operating cert or reservation system. It's only going to get uglier once they try to tackle the hard stuff.
Fuel prices didn't really start to take large drops until September, which last I checked is the END of the 3rd quarter. Of course, I"m sure you knew all year long that the fuel prices would drop as much as they have.

I have no earthly idea what the price of fuel will do. My job does not require it. Management of an airline, however, does require it.

I was at the meeting. DP assured us that 12 million had been added to the profit sharing and that we were up to 48 million and he anticipated going over 50 million for the year.

He explained that the loss was 78 million, there were many items that were put into play because of the east ch 11...things that are part of the process and that the bottom line is that the biz analyst look at the 103 million that is a profit. Go to the webcast and here what he said. He said that the profit sharing is baesd on the final report of 103 million. That's from the horses mouth.

Believe what you want.

Many economic experts were predicting oil to go up to $100/barrel
Not quite true, unless you only read the headline....

A few "experts" talked about the possibility of $100/bbl oil, but with qualifiers about the world events that would be necessary to achieve that price level.

Meanwhile, the real experts that spend all their time analyzing the petroleum markets forecast this:

"The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is projected to average $67 per barrel in 2006 and $66 per barrel in 2007."

Having said all that, the hedging charge isn't that troubling to me personally for 2 reasons - first it appears that it's only an accounting entry and not real money going out the door, and second that even WN incurred a sizable charge for hedging.

More telling to me is Clue's other point - merger expenses. Senior management has missed their forecast in this area every quarter this year, and not to the good side. If they don't have a good handle on this expense catagory, even when the 3rd quarter forecast came out 3 days before the end of the quarter, what message does that send.....

Would the FAA allow us to keep seperate ops certs ? That would be the ideal solution. Keep SOC/OCC seperate.
Undoubtedly - look at the Republic "family" of Chataugua, Republic, and Shuttle America with separate certificates.

The problem is that some of the $600 million in "synergies" is not there until we merge operations.

Hey 700, you are a bitter, bitter person. And an excellent representative of Unionism in America.

Typical reactionary garbage.
You don't know me, I posted a press release, how is that bitter?
