The proof will be Thursday.

If we lose a bunch of money we are no better than UAL.

If we do RELATIVELY well we may rest a little easier.

You may not want so much glassware at this point.

Regarding a possible US/UA merger...UA put out this press release today along with posting $537 Million 1st Quarter Loss

http://www.united.com/press/detail/0,6862,59167,00.html

The company will permanently remove 30 narrowbody aircraft from its operations, 10 -15 more aircraft than initially announced last month. The aircraft being retired are some of the oldest and least fuel efficient in the company's fleet.

The company is also expanding the scope of its 2008 cost reduction program. The company is now targeting $200 million in non-fuel cost savings, in addition to the $200 million announced earlier this year, for a total of $400 million. The company is also streamlining its operations and corporate functions in order to match the size of its workforce to the size of its business. The company expects to reduce its salaried and management workforce by 500 employees and its represented workforce by approximately 600 employees by year-end.

Earnings Preview: US Airways expected to post 1Q loss

WHAT'S AHEAD: Analysts and media reports have hinted at a possible tie-up between United Airlines and US Airways, although Parker said last week that he could not comment on any specific deals. Derchin said reports that the companies are in talks "must be taken seriously in our opinion."

USA320Pilot

All ready posted, why repeat what another poster put on the board all ready?

Humor him 700, information couldn't hurt......besides, I believe we all have heard (more than once) that you were on the NC.

I couldn't help replying to this nonsense. I'd call this scenario very wishful thinking at best. Of course if it does happen then USA320Pilot will then have to contend with the following:

1. The "new" carrier's pilots will be ALPA respresented (e.g., UAL's 6700+ pilot's
trumps USAirway's 5,800 pilots) so kiss USAPA good-bye!!
2. ALPA/UAL management will see that the Nicolau Award will be honored (read pre-nuptial
agreement)

How does that grab you?

Cheers,
Z B)

DO not derail this thread into another ALPA discussion. There is a thread for that.

Keep on topic or the thread will be closed.

Your #'s are way off. 2700 active aaa 1800 active awa over 7000 ual. So 8800+ vs 2700 active 900 inactive us.

The money has to be coming from outside investors like Boeing or Airbus. I doubt US or UA has the money to acquire the other. However I believe US will officially be the acquiring airline.

Does anyone know if it would make a difference on the LGA and DCA slots depending on if US buys UA compared to UA buying US?

I do....I think it makes a HUGE difference to US especially when it's UA merging with CAL and US is sitting out.

Ask yourself, what does US bring to the merge? Not a lot.......just a lot of domestic flying.

What I have heard, if any of this comes to fruition, is that this deal not unlike DAL/NWA will be equity trade. The shuttle will be sold to jetblue and the rest will be merged with UAL. No need for huge amounts of outside investing and shuttle divestiture will smooth over some of the regulatory hurdles... But!!!!!! This is nothing more than rumor as of now.
