LCC Proposes $8B merger with Delta

Wow!

This is not what I expected when I signed on this morning.
Unsolicited proposal to merge!?! My first thoughts about this are:

1. A real possibility this might not happen.
2. "If" the merger were to happen, it would be really bad news for CLT.
3. No need for more Intl gates in PHL with JFK practically next door.
4. Logistical nightmare in all aspects of the operation.
5. Too many fleet types.
6. Too many contract carriers.
7. Corporate culture. That would be huge barrier to success.
8. Did Dave bite off more than he can chew?
9. My guess is most DL employees do *not* want this.
10. This forum will be on Fire.......

Obviously PHL would lose out, especially since the company feels city officials are less than friendly to USeast proposals. CLT would equal BWI.
Also, i think the fact that Delta is non-union has alot to do with this. I can't see your company making any plays for NW and its labor issues. If not Delta then I would think Continental.

BTW, does anyone know about Delta's equipment types? Do they have airbus' and similar equipment?

I know that they automatically upgrade non-revs to first for free.
Their planes are immaculate.
My friends at DL say that there is rampant favoritism and unfairness due to lack of unions.
Ground employees can transfer into INFLIGHT and maintain HALF of their seniority.
Their crews think that their **** don't stink.

True. Pandas, as DL calls them are very nice. Anyway, I've always thought of DL as one of the best airlines in the world, regardless of their past elitist attitude. We would be very lucky if this merger happens. I am most concerned about the union/non-union issue.

I know two gate agents in IAD who transferred to inflight and they said that they keep half of their seniority for bidding, and full for non-revving ( I really don't know if this is true). And no offense to your partner. :)

The press release says they will drop 10% capacity, so I would imagine at least 2 A/C types to disappear.
 
i am floored. i just hoep that we intergrate the f/a date of hire .it's the only fair way. even if they are not unionized. stapeling people to the bottom is just not right .
 
If it actually happens what would happen to the hub in Salt Lake City and the other hubs.


That will be intresting , CLT and ATL come to mind as being way too close, and we know how GIGANTIC ATL is compared to CLT. Start the rumors now ! :eek:

We will see... Remember Piedmont screwed the EMPIRE PEOPLE by stapling them to the bottom and then when US bought PI and gave them seniority and pay back. Will they go back and give the PA people the same ?
 
ATL and JFK will replace PHL and CLT as major east coast hubs ending the PHL issues. LAS will close completely and SLC will be kept. Delta FAs will continue to vote to be nonunion which will over rule US and we, FA's, will suddenly be nonunion (what doug wants). This will NEVER happen IMHO.
 
well i guess this means more retro jets. lets see. all i can think of is western. i am sure that there is more.
