As a side note to some of the critics of statistics in general, the DOT audits the stats that are sent in by the airlines, and since every flight sked and block time is public information, it is a very easy thing to audit. The penalties for purposely misreporting operating statistics are very punitive, and that combined with the PR disaster that would ensue, make false reporting highly unlikely.

...Yea bean counter we all know how vigilant the DOT, FAA, NMB, CIA, FBI, INS, and any other three lettered government agency you care to throw in the mix is.

NWA is not protected by the bankruptcy court from financial obligations occurring subsequent to the bankruptcy filing. The only liabilities that NWA is not legally allowed to pay under bankruptcy protection are those liabilities that were incurred prior to the date of filing that were not yet paid as of the date of the filing.

I.E., hotel rooms used from 9/1/05 - 9/14/05 that were part of the 9/1/05-9/30/05 final bill received at the end of September fall under the pre-petition payables that NWA is not allowed to pay under Ch. 11 rules. NWA had to pay the 9/15/05 - 9/30/05 portion of that bill, and all other ongoing obligations that were incurred subsequent to 9/14/05.

A reasoned analysis based on verifiable facts is considered a nonthinking viewpoint (koolaid drinker); whereas disregarding said facts in order protect a self-serving belief based on anecdotal evidence is a high level of reasoning? Isn't that a little backwards?

Just because you state it to be true, and can produce numbers to support your belief, does not make it factual.
I put about as much faith into this bloated bureaucratic government to stand vigilant in the affairs of protecting the consumer, as they do in controlling our borders.
