AMERICAN’S RISKY RETIREMENT PROPOSAL
29 Mar 2018

The TWU-IAM Association bargaining committee is committed to fighting for industry-best retirement security. Aside from frozen pension and PBGC benefits that apply to pre-merger employees, today’s retirement benefits for Legacy American Airlines Association members come in the form of a 401(k) with company matching contributions while Legacy U.S. Airways Association members have a Defined Benefit Plan and a 401(k) with no matching contributions. Both retirement plans now lag behind industry standards and require improvement. The company’s proposal, however, fails to provide the retirement security that we deserve.

Steve Johnsen’s proposal falls short of industry-leading and even fails to reach its own internal standards. Currently, American Flight Attendants receive a maximum 401(k) company contribution of 9.9% while American Pilots receive 16%. In neither of these cases are employee contributions required. Brothers and Sisters, we deserve better than the company’s inadequate proposal.

Ultimately, retirement plans are about risk. American Airlines is attempting to shift as much retirement risk away from the company and to the employee as they can get away with. Your negotiating committee rejects company proposals that unnecessarily shift retirement risk to the membership and will not allow American Airlines to treat our members like second-class citizens. We are committed to fighting for and winning the retirement security we deserve.

Fraternally,

Your Association Negotiating Committee

It’s my pastime not much different than when I used to read the morning paper. And later on in between flights since we don’t have a TV.

Station Staffing. That can be a topic of the day?

Company wanting only to keep the 40 we have combined today and not open any new stations.

Instead of expanding the number of stations, maybe something more reasonable like a TV in your humble break room? However, back to the "Big Picture".

The 40 stations being proposed has been a difficult point in an otherwise vague listing of company highlights. What was to be the minimum number of mainline flights? Might the JCBA have 40 stations, then be subject to a minimum number of average daily mainline flights? So stations like RNO or ONT (and others) with less than 6 mainline flights could not obtain the minimum of a hypothetical 12 mainline flights? So much for the 40 promised stations! Also there will be stations presently or in the future which should exceed the minimum number of mainline flights, those stations would not be staffed with IAM/TWU ramp agents?

Scope has always been an important component of my support of a JCBA, but I recognize there will be compromises due to operational realities and a changing industry.

Just while ago I was directed to leave at D0 don’t worry about leaving bags.I pointed out we could be screwing paying customers for a minute or two.I was told leave at D0 that’s pretty much an order. At that point I added no wonder we were in the toilet in customer service ratings and that would no doubt continue. I then added at least the company was consistent they hold both their customers and their employees with equal contempt. He just shrugged his shoulders and didn’t really disagree.

Not for nothing, current TOS at DL is $30.13.

My guess is they’re waiting for your talks to wrap up to see what the wage ends up being before announcing any raise here. That would explain the vague “expect something later this year” nonsense we’ve been hearing.

That is becoming "industry standard' now. It's sad that we have to leave bags, but be sure you make those D0 numbers. Leave bags or connecting passengers behind. It's more important than having a paying customer travel without their bags on the same flight because of circumstances that can't be controlled.

On-Time is the most important thing says the bosses......PERIOD!

Two ways to look at. It if they raise you now they will increase our costs. If they wait they can say you are highest paid

Yep T5 that’s exactly how they feel nvm it allows them to pay assholes like Steven Johnson 30 mil over four years.its hard not to be disgusted by the company I work for.

Good to see you around T5 don’t be a stranger
