I haven't "run your numbers yet", but the one thing that strikes me as odd, your terms for contribution, match, and auto, all of hold a certain weight as far as importance and dollar value, so this is a RFI "request for information". What pray tell is a 5% auto?. Also please list them as such, e.g. 4% employee contribution, employee match of 100% up to 5.5% of every dollar of yearly earnings, and 5% auto, auto what?, this needs to be defined, it is not clear.

Bob,

The company is proposing to automatically put 5% of your wages as a match into your 401K, furthermore, if you put in 4% of your wages into the 401k, they'll match that 4%. Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll see the math works.

Thank you for the text from a friend that I’m taking the Trolls bait. You’re right and I need to control my own impulses on that.

Anyway let’s chat about this part.

Outsourced work down the road could include:

  • Deicing; no one today is employed solely to deice aircraft so there is no job loss.
  • Catering at 5 stations; vendors today manage this function at all but 5 stations. Current catering workers move to other fleet service positions at their current station. No job loss.
  • Keep GSE and Facilities/Plant Maintenance in stations where we have it today; possibly transition some of this work to vendors as those team members retire from or leave American. Carve-outs include GSE work at our 12 largest stations. No job loss.
  • At some of the 40 stations where one legacy carrier performs fleet service work in-house, the other legacy carrier uses a vendor to perform that same work. In those 40 stations, we would remove the vendor and move the work in-house to American employees.
  • Cargo will remain as it is today at all of our hubs. No job loss.
  • Tulsa engine overhaul work remains as it is today. No job loss.
  • Component work continues as is; as team members retire, this work could transition to a vendor. No job loss.
  • Aligns outsourcing percentages to today’s TWU Line and IAM Base outsource criteria, and establishes a Base Maintenance minimum headcount requirement to ensure we maintain a world-class Base Maintenance operation. No job loss.

WeAAsles,

Don't forget, mail wasn't mentioned and currently is being performed in PHX and LAS. That's another 75-100 jobs.

So how did everyone’s 401k do last year? Oh you made a butt load of money! How did the IAM pension fare with it’s investments? Uh Oh it is underfunded at only 95%! Underfunded and the market made a killing last year. How is that pension going to be funded when the economy has a downturn and the IAM is losing out on 12,000 members contributions from AA. This Ponzi Scheme could be crashing down. But don’t worry when you are retired and have to go get a part time job you will wish you had started that 401k!

Get ready for some last minute Back Door deals where the IAM sticks to the TWU and even sticks to their own members. Doors closed, remember the IAM is telling their memberships that all is well and that we will keep your Health Care, Catering Jobs, and top out is not an issue! The company hays told us that they have the money for top out it is all these other little things like uniforms and bulletin boards oh and the TWU that is holding things up.

Don’t worry the IAM does not have their “OWN” agenda in these talks. They smile at you and tell you they have all of “YOUR” best interest at the top of their list. They are all smiling at you when they tell you that. They could not possibly be lieing to you all, could they?

Did all of you IAM members get your letter in the mail letting you know they are raising your Union Dues again? Oh you didn’t. Guess those letters must of gotten lost in the mail again I mean I guess 12,000 letters detailing the need for more of your money could get lost. They wouldn’t just take money from you without at least letting you know would they? Guess you will just have to wait in anticipation and look every time on your paycheck to see when that happens.

Ah isn’t that wonderful of the Company to mention that they want those jobs as well.

I guess they’ll say that they don’t necessarily want them but when they do come to take them they’ll say “Well we need to be uniform with the rest of the system” or “We need to remain competitive”

I love how all these Companies are throwing the word “Competitive” at the average worker these days expecting us to say “Oh ok as long as you’re being competitive I fully understand”

Saw a sign in McDonalds offering “Competitive wages” a few months ago and I made huge fun of it and had the entire workforce in stitches. Next time I stopped back in it was gone. I wonder why?

WeAAsles,

Oh, in their proposal 9 months ago, they had several jobs listed as when and where directed. Those included lavs, water and catering security. There might be others, can't remember. I'm assuming those could be gone as well. We will be meeting in DCA on Thursday, March 29th to get more info. This meeting is with the NC, not the company.

I heard all about the “When and where directed”

When and where directed for you readers is code for you might not be the one performing that job function or we may have you perform a job function when the group we contracted the work out to is not up to the task.

BTW I think offering only 9% in exchange for the Company to essentially buy out their obligation to continue on funding the IAMPF is not a sufficient exchange. Even with a 5% Contribution attached how much does that mean the Company is going to deposit for that new hire member between year 1 to ? before he reaches TOS?

On another note a rumor was floating around and Gary just mentioned that the Pilots receive a 16% Match. Pilots or not is irrelevant especially since the Company would know full well that it would be a very tiny percentage of our members who would be able to maximize that full value. (Unlike Pilots)

I’m sure they’ve even costed out that the 9% is much cheaper than offering both the IAMPF and a 401k Match like they have it over at UAL currently and why they’re offering it instead.

Why? People get tired of the "unknown." Throw in a flyer with some feel-good language ("no layoffs!" "$3000 for everyone!") and it's an easy pit for people to fall into. Same with JFK Fleet Service's account of people already talking about when they'll get their money. Companies know this; that's why they continue to use the same playbook year in/year out.

We're our own worst enemies.
In the 2008 LUS contract the HP folks voted it in overwhelmingly knowingly full well that 42 cities mostly out west were toast and it happened I had a few rounds with some on here back then about how awful it was

Made $145,000 in my 401k last year.

Robbed I wonder what Freedom thinks of this proposal.
