The flying public needs to realize we are not a grease monkey or knuckle dragging mechanic. We are the reason they arrive safely!!!!
I don't think they public sees you that way at all.

I think you are playing the part of the victim to justify your ask. That seems a common occurrence in today's libtard world.

I have never in my life EVER heard anyone outside of the airline industry refer to an aircraft mechanic negatively. Not ONE time.

The truth is you don't have a public facing job. The thought of an airline mechanic does not even cross most peoples mind.

It's kind of like cell phone service. It takes a national ARMY (several companies and 10's of thousands of people) to make your phone work but, that never really crosses your mind. You just make a phone call and it works.

I think aircraft mechanics should be making between 55-65 an hour especially one with 35 years in the industry!!! Remember Delta's wages are where they are because the unions. Every time the unions get a decent increase Delta increases there wages to keep the unions out.

Good advice I will stay away from your forum and I don't really care what you do that one post however was over the top implying  that the "related" folks are keeping you down you sounded like a pompous ass. Do you really think if you had a exclusive union you would be making $75 an hour?

Not that it's any of your business, but for AMTs, the "and related" with the exception of Tech Service have almost always voted against the wishes of the majority of AMTs.  Keeping us down?  More like them always being on the wrong side of whatever we are voting on.  Sorry if you find that offensive, I find our current voting arrangement beneficial for the union and company only.  I am of the opinion that the AMTs would get through negotiations a lot faster if they were a seperate group.

Not a public facing job?  More public than you might think.  You wouldn't know that, having only being at an overhaul base.  Line AMTs see the public every day on jetbridges, in the cabin either fixing or flying on a field trip, and in the terminal.  The thought of an airline mechanic doesn't cross the flying public's mind till there is a maintenance delay, and we all know that never happens.

Fair enough, I haven't seen that division here at LUS of course I've been in only 2 stations in 38 years with basically the same people

Guess it must be a slow day over in fleet.
You bring up an interesting point Conehead where do Avionics fit in with the pay scale . You really shouldn't make as much as an AMT maybe slightly less then a GSE say around $40 lets face it, half of  you got your training putting together model drones for the hobby department of Toys R Us

Vortilon this is the first time I have ever seen an honest to goodness, legitimate answer to this question.

Good job.

I have worked for the airport as well. If only for a short time (a few months).

I stand behind what I said.

It may annoy people when they take a delay but that is the exception not the rule. Most of the time the aircraft mechanic is not even an afterthought. That actually just means you are doing your job well.
