Not exactly resounding confidence in the IAM. 700 will say a win is a win, but the IAM didn't win anything, they just get to continue collecting dues from USAIR M&R. It seems AMFA has more interest at AA than USAIR. Who are you to call them idiots? I would sooner be unorganized than join any of the unions.

This thred is or was started to let the USAirwaus mechanics, which are aircraft/automotive/facilities/utility ....... know that we the AA mechanics are signing cards to remove the TWU and stop this alliance from happening.
 
We have a conference call each week, on that call are the Organizers from AA and we have now approx 5-7 gus from around the USAirways system joinging in as well.
 
The is a AMFA card drive however small going on at USAirways, we the organizer have talked with members around the US system. Many of the US guys I have talked to are open to the idea
but the main thing on most peoples mind as I read this thred is the Pension. 700 and others are going to tell you that if you change unions that you will loose your pension.
They are also going to tell you that changing during negotiations will hurt the contract as well.
 
We here at AA lost our pension, that is how we verbalise it but in reality it is just frozen. It is underfunded and AA is paying into that from my understanding just to bring it closer to being funded, but that it will not grow as far as what I receive when I retire. If you get fired from USAirways, Quit, change unions you are still going to collect your Pensions. It is yours, no matter what. Even if USAirways went out of business, The Pension will go to the PBGC as mine did with Eastern and all the other guys throughout time that the companies they worked for went out of business.
 
Most companies in the US are doing away or have done away with DBA, moving over to 401k's or some other type of retirerment plan.
 
AA has done away with the Pilots/F/A/TWU's pension and turned it into a 401k of some type or another. Don't let the IAM supporters tell you that the AA guys are going to be able to
get into this plan. That maybe true but our 401k is a better deal. From what I hear. you get approx $4000.00 a yr put into this IAM plan we the AA mechanics can put more into our 401 and it gets up to a 5% match (TWU). The Pilots and F/A got even a better deal.  
 
The Pension is YOURS NOT THE IAM'S.
 
Just like the IBT's Pension the IAM pension has restrictions on it when you retire. Ask the IAM Pension administrators about them. Don't let the IAM supporters tell you that you will loose it, NOT TRUE... If you remember even when you guys signed IBT cards to get an election the IBT told you its your pension and that you could not loose it. They also should of told you that the IAM is trying to just keep the dues flowing. The IBT is the worst of the industrial unions in my opinion but they are or were correct the IAM just can't take your pension. It is YOURS.
 
No matter what Josh, 700UW, 737823 or all these guys who think they know whats going to happen don't rely on them DO YOUR OWN investigation. Read about the restrictions if you quit, get fired retire, change unions. Go to some one who administers the pension ask them what will happen.
 
AMFA has nothing to do with pensions, it does not admin any pension plan. It's either a company plan or the unions plan. AMFA will let you decide not dictate since AMFA is a democratic run union just ask the SWA or Alaska guys.
 
Either way its yours. The 401k's or what ever plan gets negotiated when we all switch to AMFA will be in our opinion better.
It will not have any restrictions like the IAM ot IBT plan where you can't work after you retire in the trade or they will stop paying your pension.
 
If you are tired of all the lies then >YOU< the USAirways guys need to ask a AA mechanics at your station or get with a AMFA organiser from AA get a card sign it and help stop this alliance.
 
Get involved in your career, don't let the IAM or the Know it all at your station or here tell YOU what is going to happen.

700UW "YOU' are correct the fact that you leave the IAMNPF be it by quitting US, being fired, changing Unions, for what ever reason. your will not get any more money than what is calculated for each person at that time.
 
But you need to re-assure your IAM Brothers and tell them they can't and will NOT Loose their Pension, it is theirs. That the IAM only administers it.
 
The mechanics Pension is safe... 
 
And to answer your question if we were pension experts we would not being on this board or working for the airlines, we would be at some financial institution making big money.

at this point. They pumped us here at AA so why would they turn around and deal with a even smaller work group. Think about that.

It seems that Doug and company have come up with an industry leading agreement that will make the US Airways M&R the highest paid in the industry. In terms of pay and benefits. Advances across the board.
Only problem is they have put it in a wet paper bag and the IAM can't seem to get it out....
