Inflight Supervisor

With AP as the new base manager, and AS as the international mangaer - we can only expect more "brilliant" decisions. Having worked with both of them, I couldn't find two more incompetant people at US Airways to fill those rolls.

Read AP's blurb in PHL's December newsletter (posted on theHub, under Divisions). What type of leader writes "we are always a victom of change". Geez - talk about trying to rally the troops!

We just received an e-mail in our company mail essentially begging for people to apply for the open Inflight Supervisor position (PHL).

Are they having that much trouble filling these vacancies? I have not met any of the new "recruits" yet, but it seems they are having some trouble attracting qualified people?

Yikes....

From the HR policy manual:

Management is not permitted to work in a direct supervisor/subordinate relationship with a relative at any time. Direct supervision is defined as a reporting relationship without an intervening level of management. Management is defined as employees covered under the Management Salary Plan.

Employees are not eligible for transfer or promotion and applicants are not eligible for hire into a position which would create a direct supervisory relationship. Additionally, employees and applicants who have a relative employed by the Company are not eligible for transfer or promotion into a position determined to be confidential in nature, or where a potential conflict of interest may exist, or where their presence would adversely impact internal controls. Employees who work in the Chairman's and President's office, Internal Audit, Financial Planning, Labor Relations, and Security may not have a relative employed by the Company at any time unless approved by the President and/or Chairman.

Employment situations with the potential or impression of a conflict of interest must be approved in advance by the Vice-President, Human Resources and Development. The Vice President, Human Resources and Development, in consultation with the respective department Officer, will make recommendations to avoid such conflict and/or assist in any required placement, transfer or separation.

thanks for the info, Inflight supervisors are covered under the MSP. guess the VP of HR will make recommendations to avoid such conflict.

there is a new supervisor in Philadelphia Inflight...this person has a spouse and a parent that are Philadelphia based flight attendants...is this not a conflict? is there not a company policy still in place? Hmmmm I getting flashbacks of the AFA/70 LECP re-call

as long as neither her husband nor mother are in her flight attendant group, why does anyone care? is there nothing better to talk about?

Having worked with both of them for a number of years, I find your comments to be untrue. They are both very competent people.

peter,
When you left the whole place fell apart. If Tempe had a brain they would have asked you to be Base Director. And I must agree with the above, both are 2 people that can't find a way out of a paper bag. I would hope they were the only two that applied and HR had no other choice?

Thank you for the kind words. I do miss aspects of being in management but am very happy being on the line. I have no stress and am enjoying my life.

I have to agree. AS goes ABOVE AND BEYOND for the flight attendants. He knows more about what is going on than the people above him.

Just the other day he told me he would rather his office be in the B crewroom to be with the flight attendants. Now that is someone I WANT to run my base. He really truly cares. Give him a chance to prove what most of us already know as true. He is great at what he does.
