What a loaded question!!! We here in the west are finding out that the IAM mostly represents their own self interest. To actually answer your question, they represent the maint. techs, stock clerks, and fleet service. I have to assume by your screename, that you are a Delta employee. My opinion(and that of a growing number) is that if/when a merger goes through the Delta people should call for a vote so that all will be rid of the IAM. The proof will be in the pudding when the results of this weeks meetings are posted. Oh no! I have to go..... I here 22 IAM thugs knocking at my door. They want to punish me for speaking against the almighty IAM!!Who exactly does the IAM represent at US Airways? I know they represent Fleet Service, who else?

We mostly look at it this way. If you had a chance to get screwed for free or had to pay someone to get screwed which would you choose? Also, if anyone who has stuck it out this long in our industry thinks that there is any job security(union brokered or not) they are dillusional. All it wil take is one more terrorist act(God forbid) or the price of oil to climb any higher than $70 a barrel and we aare all screwed anyway. Those of us still left doing what we do are in it because we love it or have been here so long we won't pursue other carreers. Just one man's opinion.dear toker boy , i'm no IAM thug , and was by no means fond of them when it came down to deciding to go with IAM over TWU , but i'll tell you this much ,delta doesn't have a union and if we call for a vote we wouldn't either ... i think the gist of my statment is that the only thing less pleasant than IAM is being left to the whims of US airways managment with no job protections ...

As I prepare to go into surgery tomorrow morning I wonder what I would do a year from now if the IAM lets the company drop our short and long term disability insurance. Would I choose to fix my shoulder or to loose my home?
You ought to look at it this way dude....without a contract, most if not all your maintenance work between 2 merged airlines now and DL would be at jeopardy. At least now you have verbage covering your work rules, bennies and such.keep wishing...you'll be a part of labor history soon.We mostly look at it this way.
