IAM M&R CONTRACT UPDATE AUG-2013

The merger isnt dead, its just reached an obstacle, and the normal Section 6 negotiations intent for the IAM is a bridge agreement on the table is about $36 an hour for a mechanic, an extra week of vacation, full sick pay no matter what you have in your bank, .40 increase in the pension which would bring the multiplier to $104 for a mechanic and a few other things.

Then head in JCBA if and when there is a merger.

$36/hr when? At DOS? Or at the last year of a 4 year deal? Makes a big difference. Also, how about overtime?

You guys asked the stupid questions and 700 tried to answer them. Then you give him crap when he does? You all probably don't deserve the base rate your getting now ! Nobody ever reads the FAR's, the MPPM. The mechanics here work jobs and then look for a reference. It's an absolute joke. 50% of the guys actually work and the other 50% are slugs. Changing Unions wouldn't have changed the work ethic I see everyday. Ask a guy who got laid off and had to get a real job these past years how things are out there. Believe me you have got it easy. The average hourly rate in this country is less than $24/hr. Have a little patience. Now that the AA/US merger has been put on hold negotiations can resume and hopefully conclude soon. Like I said before the merger would have been the best thing for all. If this merger doesn't go through I'm seeing a big order for wide bodies on the horizon. More International presence is a must.

Pictured in latest edition of Local Lodge 1725 newsletter and described as IAM member...???

Funny 700 says he has been separated from US since 2005 but seems to know more about negotiations and matters at the IAM than the actual members working at US.

Because I take the time to educate myself, and my son's mother is involved.

Funny you say your a banker yet you interject (mostly wrong information) here.

And when confronted you refuse to say who you work for.

Anything you disagree with or doesn't suit the IAM agenda is misinformation to you.

Josh

Wrong again,

I have proven you wrong over and over, especially over what happened at TWA.

Just political wrangling in Washington DC. AA/US will divest some routes and this will be approved. This is the exact same Department of Justice that approved UA/CO in 2010.

US Airways mechanics will get a nice raise in wages, pension, keep their scope and industry best healthcare and then get another bite at the apple. AA mechanics will get an excellent pension, pay raises and healthcare. They are in a win-win.

UAL mechanics will get no pension, their healthcare costs will skyrocket and in JCBA negotiations only a $.23 raise in base wage in on the table. Also, layoff and recall will be by company seniority which will cause a revolution on the sub-CO side. IAM cards are being signed as we speak. The IBT is going bye, bye in the airline industry.

Definitely not industry best healthcare. Don't get me wrong; alot better than some, but not as good as others. My current employer offers better than I had there- and I believe that UAL mechs enjoy company paid healthcare.

The National Mediation Board (NMB) has scheduled a “status conference” with the IAM and US Airways in Washington D.C. on Tuesday September 10, 2013 regarding the Mechanic and Related and Fleet Service negotiations.

The purpose of the meeting with the NMB is to discuss remaining issues and both parties’ positions on these issues.

“We are attending these meetings as unified groups with the single goal of attaining contracts IAM members want, need and deserve,” said IAM District 142 President Tom Higginbotham. “Our position has not changed; contract before merger.”

“The IAM requested a release to strike for both groups months ago and the NMB and US Airways continue to stall,” said IAM District 141 President Rich Delaney. “IAM members should not have to wait a second longer for a contract while US Airways earns record profits and scrambles to fix this merger debacle.”

IAM-represented Mechanic and Related, Maintenance Training Specialist and Fleet Service workers have been in negotiations for well over two years with US Airways. The IAM has requested a release from mediated talks for the Mechanic and Related and Fleet Service groups earlier this year.

The IAM represents approximately 14,000 workers at US Airways and is the largest union at the carrier.

Machinists to NMB: Contracts Now!

September 10, 2013

The National Mediation Board (NMB) today held a “status conference” with IAM Districts 141 and 142 regarding the ongoing US Airways Mechanic and Related and Fleet Service contract negotiations. The NMB will meet with the company tomorrow.

Amid the continuing uncertainty surrounding the American-US Airways merger, the purpose of the conference was to discuss outstanding issues and both parties’ positions on these issues.

“During this entire process we have been crystal clear with US Airways that our contracts come before merger distractions,” said IAM District 141 President Rich Delaney. “But all we have seen from US Airways is delay and diversion. IAM members at US Airways are unified and prepared to take this dispute public and will be fully supported by the substantial resources of the Machinist’s Union to achieve the agreements they deserve.”

“All IAM members at US Airways stand in solidarity with the same goal; contracts now!" said IAM District 142 President Tom Higginbotham. “US Airways needs to stop babbling about this merger circus and do what’s right by IAM members at US Airways.”

IAM-represented Mechanic and Related, Maintenance Training Specialist and Fleet Service workers have been in negotiations for well over two years with US Airways. The IAM has requested a release to strike from the NMB for the Mechanic and Related and Fleet Service groups earlier this year.

Depending on the delay of the merger with the suit, it is more than likely just a small delay. I am sure (if there is a merger) that the merger will be completed in first, or at latest, early 2nd quarter of 2014. I foresee the companies focusing on the merger then the contracts. I would be in great doubt that the IAM will be able to get their contract prior to merger. Pretty sure US will be very successful at postponing contract talks until after merger, and, they will be successful getting the NMB on board with this. After all, it's only been 2 years. I've seen contract talks go twice as long and even longer as I am sure you have too...

Negotiations Update
______________________________________________

The National Mediation Board has notified the IAM of their decision to tentatively schedule future dates for negotiations between the IAM and US Airways. The dates are dependent on the successful resolution of the overall government budget debate currently taking place in Congress.

The NMB has determined that the first available date for resumption of negotiations for Mechanic and Related will be the week of October 14, 2013.

We look forward to engaging management in meaningful negotiations trying to reach a tentative agreement that recognizes and rewards our US Airways members both before and after any merger with American Airlines or any other possible partner.

We also intend to work closely with our Brothers and Sisters of District 141 within the Fleet Service classifications to demonstrate a coordinated and unified force to the company on behalf of all US Airways IAM members.

US Airways Mechanic and Related

“The IAM requested a release to strike for both groups months ago and the NMB and US Airways continue to stall,” said IAM District 141 President Rich Delaney. “IAM members should not have to wait a second longer for a contract while US Airways earns record profits and scrambles to fix this merger debacle.” Sounds to me with the postings above that the release is denied and it will be "back to the table" in October. All the stall tactics will continue with help from the gov. Starting right from the get go with the gov saying, "The National Mediation Board has notified the IAM of their decision to tentatively schedule future dates for negotiations between the IAM and US Airways. The dates are dependent on the successful resolution of the overall government budget debate currently taking place in Congress." Again I do not see a contract being done prior to merger. Too much in the companies favor and the NMB will not release so they can focus on the merger.
